I finally gonna do it. I'm finally going to leave the academy!

I know it's risky, but it's the only choice left. Too many people are going missing. I don't want to be next. I have to go. Tonight.

Stepping out of the safety of my dorm room was the scariest feeling in the world. The halls were nearly pitch black. The only light I had was from my flashlight that I was lucky to have.

Come on, Amber. Move. Step forward. Use your legs!

I was screaming at myself inside of my head, and I finally took a step forward. I wobbled when I walked. I was so scared.

Walking down that hallway was so hard for me to do. I could barely see, even though my flashlight gave off a pretty bright light. I kept thinking I heard noises. I really hoped it was nothing.

There's an infection going around. It...changes a person. Turns them into a monster. A monster that craves human blood! They kill the people they used to go to school with everyday!

I didn't want to get the infection. That's why I was so scared.... I didn't want to turn into one of those creatures.

My heart nearly stopped when I heard the heavy breathing of someone or something. Something was with me. Watching me.

I heard footsteps approach me.

Oh god.

I wasn't ready.

I didn't want to die!!

The footsteps got closer.

No.

No.

No.

No!

No!!

I wasn't going to die!!

Acting on pure adrenaline, I threw my flashlight in the direction of the footsteps and hightailed it down the hall.

That was a pretty stupid move actually. Now I have no light.

"OW!"

I skidded to halt.

Wait I minute.

I knew that voice.

I spun around, squinting my eyes to try and see through the darkness. I stepped forward and could start to make out 2 figures.

A boy and a girl.

The boy had blue, almost black, hair while the girl had red hair.

"At least we have a flashlight now!" That sounded like the boy.

"Mirai? Alex?!"

I definitely knew those voices.

"Amber?!"

I felt 2 people crash-hug me tightly, causing me to almost fall over. Luckily I kept my balance.

"G-guys...! I-it's really you!! Oh, thank God I'm no longer alone!"

"Amber, we were so worried about you!" Alex said, pulling away from the embrace, "We had no idea where you went or what happened to you!"

"We thought you died!" Mirai added.

"We shouldn't have jumped to that conclusion though," Alex says, "You would never go down without a fight, Amber!"

I laughed slightly and rubbed the back of my neck. "Hehe, I guess... I'm just so happy I'm not alone anymore."

"We're happy you aren't dead!" Mirai said with a slightly laugh.

Alex handed me my flashlight, "Here. You kinda threw this at me!"

"S-sorry, Alex!" I said.

"Don't worry about it!" I'm pretty sure she was smiling, but I couldn't tell because it was so dark.

"Now that we've finished out little reunion," Mirai starts, "We should keep moving. We need to get out of the school as quickly as possible."

"Right."

It felt like it took years to get out to the courtyard. The school was big, yes, but I've gotten outside countless times before in omit a matter of around five minutes when everything was normal and not like it was. I didn't understand, but I decided not to question it. I wasn't going to get answers anyways.

"We're finally escaping!" Alex cheered.

Wow. We really are going to make it out tonight. We're so close!

Our eyes lit up when we saw the gates to the school. Our freedom was right there!!

But one thing was blocking us from our haven.

A dome.

A transparent glowing dome was covering the entire academy and every inch of the school grounds.

It was trapping us in, keeping us from getting out.

We couldn't escape.

Alex ran up the dome and slammed her fists into it. She tried this for around a minute before giving up. "It's not going down."

"There has to be some type of way to disable it then," Mirai said, "We have to figure out how to disable the dome."

"Sounds simple enough!" I say.

"I doubt it'll be that easy." Mirai said with a sigh, "Let's just head back inside and go from there. It's safer inside anyway."

Alex and I both nodded.

We were heading back to the front door, when the sound of freshly fallen autumn leaves  crunching under feet stopped us in our tracks....

((aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa yes I know it's short but I'm tired and need sleep for once so take this as a prologue thingy I guess

I'm finally going to try and write an original book! I have plans for this and an actual plot, so hopefully I won't start procrastinating on not wanting to do it! Yeh))
