CHAPTER 12

She volunteered to drive since I was panicking too much. My dad said nothing when he saw us in the club. But I saw how angry he was. He only signaled for us to leave the club and go straight home.

I was nearly yelling because of my frustration.

"Best, calm down. Please. We'll just explain everything to him." Rhian softly said as she held my hand that was fidgeting.

"I was never close to him, best. Alam mo un. May takot ako sa kanya. Kaya kinakabahan ako." I explained as I tighten my grip around her hand.

My dad has been home for almost a week now. Yet we have hardly seen each other since I spend at least half of my day at Rhian's house, and the other half at the club.

"Don't worry, sasamahan kita. I w--"

"No, Rhian! Baka kung anong magawa ni Papa. Baka madamay ka pa. It'll be fine. I can handle it." I interrupted immediately.

"Hindi ka naman siguro sasaktan ni Tito, diba?" Pag-aalangan niyang tanong.

"Seeing how mad he is, hindi imposibleng mangyari un. At mas hindi ko kakayanin kapag sinaktan ka rin niya. So please, just let me do this alone. Kung may mangyari man, pwedeng-pwede naman kagad kitang puntahan."

She looked at me for a second and sighed heavily after. I knew Rhian wasn't really okay with it, but I didn't want her to get involved.

Kilala ko si Papa. Kayang-kaya niya akong saktan dahil ginagawa na niya ito kahit nung bata palang ako. He used to hit me with a belt before locking me in my room the whole day. That was my childhood punishment. And I never told my bestfriend about it.

No one said a word anymore until we reached our street. Rhian stopped the car in front of their house, and I hesitated to get out when I saw my dad already waiting at our house's gate.

"Sure ka ba talagang ayaw mong samahan kita?" She asked, still holding my hand.

"I'm sure, best." I assured.

"Okay. Whatever happens, just let me know ASAP. Please." Her eyes full of worry and almost in tears.

I only gave her a faint nod because I could barely feel my heartbeat. Ayoko sanang harapin si Papa, but I knew I have to sooner or later.

So I got out of the car, and walked my way towards our house with cold hands and heavy feet. Before I even reached close to where he was standing, he already went inside the house. And then I knew that I was in big trouble.
