Chapter 28

Cassandre POV

This dinner was a total disaster and I couldn't do anything about it because I wasn't fighting one shark but two ! Jake's mom took a seat next to Stephanie who sat next to Jake. So I had the great pleasure of eyeing her touching, laughing and making any kind of possible human contact with my boyfriend without killing her. 

I must admit that my roasted chicken took most of my anger. Jake, of course realised how unconfortable I was and tried to get me into his mother's good graces but nothing worked. For every subject brought up, she find a way to divert it to Stephanie or to some memories that her and Jake shared. I have never felt more out of place in my life. 

At least, dinner was good. Even though, I didn't get any 'thanks' or 'wonderful meal' coming from the two snakes' s mouths; I could see it on their faces expressions when they tried it. It was a little consolation. 

I was currently in the kitchen preparing the desserts and drinking my glass of wine to forget this night. Getting the ice cream out of the freezer, I came face to face with Ms. Holt. She had her arms crossed across her chest and was eyeing me with devil eyes. 

" How do you like Stephanie, dear ? I hope you don't mind I invited her." She asked me with fake concern.

" She seems like a wonderful girl. But I would really appreciate it if she kept her claws away from my boyfriend. I mean her whole body language screams desperate, don't you think ?" I replied in a cool voice. 

" I really don't understand why you are trying so hard. Jake will realise what you really are and leave you. He will realise how wrong his choice was and come back to me to find a girl that fits him."  she explained.

" And what girl is that Ms. Holt ? A tall blonde girl who will relish the ground he walks on and agree with everything he says. A girl like Stephanie ? I am sorry to tell you that you are really wrong. Stephanie will never be a girl for Jake - " I started but was cut off.

" And you think you are ? Be honest with yourself child, he is way out of your league and you should let him go and leave with your dignity while you can."

" You know what ? Maybe I am not going to be here forever. But for now, I love your son and he loves me. So if staying for the moment means getting my heart crushed, I don't really care because your son makes me happy and I do the same for him. And I am really sorry for you because you are so blind. " 

" Excuse me ?" she asked me anger rising in her tone. But I didn't care anymore. This woman will never like me because I wasn't perfect. 

" I tried to be nice to you. I bust my ass off to prepare the dinner for you tonight so maybe we could have started over on good basis but apparently nothing that I will do will be good enough for you Ms. Holt. I am not going to apologize for being the way I am. Yes, I am not skinny and I am not tall. Hell, I might even be the only red hair head you know. But I will never change myself to please you. I love your son and I wish you would like me because I know it would make him happy. Despite everything you are doing, he chose me. How did that happen ? I honestly don't know ! But this is the way it is and if you don't want to accept me, it is your loss. But I am not going anywhere so you better get used to see my face around. Now, dessert is ready and will be served in the dinning room  if you wish."

Jake's mom was shocked after my speech and I felt a little embarassed to have let out my whole anger out in front of her. So I left her to recompose herself alone in the kitchen. I grabbed a plate on my way and kept my head down. I opened the door to the dining room and lifted my eyes slowly while talking.

" So dessert is served. I made a cho-" 

But I didn't get to finish my introduction because what I saw made me drop the plate and my mouth drop open. Pressed against the wall was Jake with Stephanie pressed against his body and her hands were roaming his body. I suddendly felt disgusted and wanted to throw up on the marble floor of the room.
