Invisible Strings

Chapter 5

**flashback**

Kai was walking down the hallway when someone took his hand and hugged him. He smiled as he saw her delicate face. “oppa, wanna go hang-out for a bit?” she cutely asked. “Sure. Anything for my Eunjung.”  He said and walked with intertwined hands. They decided to eat at a nearby café. They were happily eating and chatting. Eunjung never fails to make Kai’s heart beat faster. “oppa, you have something on your face.” She said. He tried to lick it off. She took out her handkerchief and wiped something from the corner of his lips. He slightly blushed. Surprised by her sudden sweet act. “thanks Eunjung-ah.” Kai giddily stated.

After eating, they decided to go at a nearby park. She took his hand again as they walk. He blushed again. They sat at a bench to chill. She leaned her head on his shoulder. “oppa, do you love me?” she asked as she cutely pouts at him. “of course.”  He answered and ruffled her hair.

“how about you? Do you also love me?”

Kai asked. She smiled and stood up. Still holding his hands. “let’s go home, oppa.” She said. Kai got a bit disappointed because she didn’t answer his question. Didn’t she hear it? Or did she just ignore it? He shrugged off the thought. Soon after, they started walking home.  But he can’t seem to forget what happened earlier at the park. Kai suddenly had  doubts if she loves him. *does she love me? Or not. But she’s really sweet to me. That means she loves me, right?* he thought. He let out a sigh. He was so deep in his thoughts that he didn’t notice that they’re walking at a different path. He saw five guys at the end of the alleyway. He froze at his spot. He looked at Eunjung and back at the guys. She went behind them and gave him a hateful look. The five guys surrounded him and started beating him up. They punched and kicked him for what seemed like forever. His lips started bleeding.  Bruises started to appear in most parts of his body. He got cuts and is now constantly bleeding. The Kai at that time was weak. He was so kind that he didn’t even fight back at them. He was lying lifeless at the cold hard ground. They were still beating him up. He looked at Eunjung and saw her smiling. She seems to enjoy the view. He clenched his fist. He swears that after this, everything will change. Including him. The  ‘nice and perfect’ Kai will turn into a ‘cold and hateful’ Kai. Thanks to Eunjung. (full of sarcasm with rolling of eyes) *let’s see who’ll still be brave to love me or take me for granted.* he thought. After that, everything went black.

After that incident, Kai spent his life ignoring and being rude to people. He built thick and large walls that surrounded and shielded his heart and soul. Since then, no one dared to show their feelings and selves to Kai. Because if they did, they will experience hell. He doesn’t consider mercy.

**end of flashback**

"sorry. i'm not good at telling stories and stuff.” Kai shrugged. He leaned at the tree and tried to sleep. “whatever Kai. But how will we know his story?” Sehun said with a pout. Minhee frowned. She got confused. “but he just finished talking, right?” she asked and looked at them. Sehun and Luhan both shrugged. *but I just heard and saw Kai’s past a while ago. Wait… so that means… d-did I just entered a person’s mind?* she thought and unconsciously covered her mouth. The two worriedly looked at her. “what’s wrong, Minhee-ah?” Luhan aked.

“I-I think I j-just discovered my another power.” She answered, still in shock.

“you have powers? That’s daebak!” Sehun said as he excitingly shook Minhee. Luhan quickly removed Sehun’s hands. “hey! You might hurt her. Look! She’s still speechless.” Luhan seriously said. He looked at her. He can’t read Minhee’s expression. And it made him worry more. “Minhee-ah, are you alright?” he asked as he lean closer to examine her face. Minhee blushed which made her back to her senses. “y-yes Luhan. I’m fine.” She said and gave him a warm smile. Sehun sat beside her.

“so tell us about your powers, Master!”

He beamed. Seeing Sehun in that state would always make her laugh. “well… b-before you guys came here, I was always treated a cipher. I got that nickname because I always fail to discover my powers. I was the only powerless student in this school. And I think no one wants to be friends with me. But I got used to it. Our family is also one of the richest in our land. I’m glad that nobody in this school knows that.  After you guys came, this thing appeared…” then she showed them her left hand. “I also d-discovered last night that I can teleport---”

“really?! Show us! Show us!” Sehun jumped up and down like a kid.

“o…okay.”

She leaned closer to Sehun. Their faces were already inch closer when she suddenly disappeared. He looked around and saw her laughing behind Luhan. *phew! Good thing she doesn’t see me blush.* Sehun thought. Minhee teleported back at her place while still laughing. He was about to speak when he saw Luhan’s ‘what-are-you-doing-she’s-supposed-to-tell-her-story’ look. “Okay okay, continue.” Sehun said, refraining his self from laughing.

“and today, I discovered that I c-can read minds.”

Sehun and Luhan stiffened. Minhee noticed it and smiled at them. “don’t worry. I won’t use my powers on you guys.” She assured to them. Luhan hugged her before Sehun did. “thanks, Minhee-ah!” he said. He looked at Sehun and smirked. “she’s mine.” Luhan mouthed. Minhee blushed at the sudden closeness. Meanwhile, Kai was just watching them the whole time. He scuffed when Luhan hugged Minhee. *I can do better.* he thought and rolled his eyes.

“okay. Now it’s Sehun’s turn.”
