Ashyra's POV
Age: 10
Mt. Daiyamondokurō  (Mt. Diamond Claw)

Time stood still as I made my way down the damp streets of my town. People strolled past me, bags in hand, going along with their normal lives as if everything was normal. That's how it usually was around here, people going along with this average setup as if they had no idea about the hell outside of this mountain.

I can't really talk though, I knew just about as much as the average commoner. The difference between me and them though is that I am aware of the world we live in, which is not like it was however many years ago when people were at a decent size and not eating each other. Those are the rumors about what await anyone who walks outside, giant cannibals with a hunger for human flesh.

Usually people would think we were crazy, talking of beasts like this, but believe me, it's real. I've never seen one with my own eyes, but as my father always told me, seeing is never always believing.

It was a bright morning as everyone within the city began moving, awake and active like ants inside an anthill. From what I was able to see, it looked like a clear day, even if I was just looking through a hole above us that was maybe only 10 meters wide.

That was the only sunlight we were allowed, shining through the top of the mountain that concealed our city. Some say this use to be a dormant volcano, hollowed out by thousands of years of weathering and decay. Right now, it was the only think concealing our city, blocking out the terrors of reality.

Houses were carved into the actual rocks, and small streams flowed in from the walls, giving us a fresh supply of water. It may not sound like much, but it was actually pretty large, almost the size of a regular city. Titans never traveled this far up the mountain ranges, but if they did, the leagues would take care if it.

Oh, the leagues. They were the top dogs, the ones who have dedicated their lives to protecting this place. Pure annoyances if you ask me. That's a very rare opinion, but for someone who has been forced to spend her life on the streets, I have my reasons for the bitter attitude I feel toward them. They just can't understand the struggles of a commoner like me when they're so blinded by control.

"Ashyra!" I hear my name being called from behind, and I turn to see my friend as she approaches from farther down the road. From the looks of it, she had come from the larger section of the city, which just happened to be where she lived. That's where the more privileged families were housed.

Her crimson red jacket was unmistakable, that thing almost being attached to her ever since she was a toddler. It was made for a small adult, the sleeves almost twice as long as her arm, but she somehow made it work. "Karasu." I greeted as she came to my side. "What took you so long?"

"Trying to find the right time to sneak out of my house." She scoffs before quickly examining my expression. A look of disapproval followed soon after. "You look like you slept with a nest of rats. When's the last time you combed through your hair?"

As I shot her an annoyed glare, I ran my fingers through the mess atop my head, realizing that it had gotten a bit unkempt over the last few weeks. I don't see how she could blame me though, I had long brown hair that reached down to my waist, it's hard to keep it under control when you don't even own a shower.

I feel a tap on my shoulder, and when I look, I see a simple hairbrush in Karasu hands. "I had a hunch you would be needing this." She says, sheepishly sneering at my stunned expression. She had the tendency to do that, read my mind like I was an open book. I could do the same with her too.

I was about to deny, not wanting her to get into a habit of helping me so often, but I couldn't stop her when she forces the brush into my fingers. "Come on, Ash, just because you live on the streets doesn't mean you shouldn't care about your looks."
