Chapter 28 : Glory

Start from the beginning

"How did you two meet?"

"Why the sudden interest in your biological father, hm? You never asked about him as a child. "

"I'm just curious."

"Or...you want to forget about your adoptive father."

"It isn't that like that. I may hate my adoptive brother but...professor bloom was a good man, and father."

"I have to give this professor bloom some credit. He raised you well."

Juriko stopped and Syrena stopped to. They were back at the well. The well she was sent down into the day her mother died. Syrena watched as her mother sat down on a rock.

"Sit." Juriko said.

Syrena did as she was told and sat down on a rock next to her mother.

"Your real father was a common man. And like I said, he was curious. The first day he came here was months before the battles ever started, before the golden army was created. A young and charming man he was. Not too bright, but not to dull either."

Syrena watched and listen carefully. she kept taping her fingers on the rock waiting for her mother to continue.

"We met the day he, his crew, and ship came from the horizon, sailing over the sea. Our sea, our territory. Me and Maka were sitting on the beach, and we watched as they came in their boats and stepped onto the sand. Me being the queen it was my job to welcome them, only to bring them back as food. But I had a different idea. I persuaded the village to act civilized until I got what I wanted."

"And what was it? What did you want?" Syrena asked.

"What do you think it was that I wanted?" Juriko asked.

Syrena thought about it before looking at her mother.

"Me. You wanted me." Syrena said. Her mother smiled.

"Yes. The few weeks that your father spent here I was seducing him, at first he was reluctant. Said that he could sense trouble coming from me. Once I finally got what I wanted I knew that it was time to end him."

"And you did. You killed him."

"No."

Syrena looked at her mother with wide eyes.

"Your father might not have been that smart but he had a kind heart...he truly cared about me, and you. So when the time came I sent him back on his boat and sailed him off, but we killed his crew."

"You let him live?" Syrena asked.

"Is it that hard to believe?"

"Um...yes."

Her mother rolled her eyes, standing up and walked over to the well. Her hand gripped the lever.

"I let him go, because I loved him. But it was my biggest mistake."

"What do you mean?" Syrena asked.

"The day we were attacked, and I sent you down in the well...your father was there...he was the one who led those humans into our territory unseen some how. And....he was the one who killed me."

"W-what?! But, I don't understand-"

"Well I do!" Juriko said.

Her mother turned around and her hand let go of the lever.
