Genesis' PoV
He just does not understand. Hell, my own father is oblivious to the fact that we both have different ideas of my future. Of course, he wants me to get a college education, marry a Catholic man, settle down, and have children. I mean, there is nothing wrong with what my father wants for me, but it's not what I want. That future is just too mundane and stereotypical. I am just now realizing how poignant I am. Seriously, I am a rising junior in high school and I have no idea what college I want to attend or what occupation I aspire to be. What I do know is that I just ran out from a huge fight with my father and am currently taking refuge at a bar that is an hour and a half's drive away from my hometown of Mystic Falls.
As I sip my tequila, I catch the image of a man sitting at the bar a seat away from me. He is wearing a gray V-neck shirt, a black leather jacket, and rugged jeans. His face is angular-shaped, his nose a small hook. The angle of his eyebrows makes him look like he is angry, but his vividly, bold sea-blue eyes say otherwise. They seem to long for something. I end up not staring at the man and drink my tequila.
A couple minutes later, I hear a man's voice say the name, Alexia. I turn and see that the man I was analyzing earlier is now looking at me. I look around to see who he was talking to when I realize it is me.
"Um..., I'm not Alexia. My name's Genesis."
"I'm sorry. It's just that you really remind me of someone that I knew. I'm Damon."
"Well, Damon, what brings you here?" I ask, trying to keep the conversation going.
"Bourbon."
"Bourbon?"
"No, whiskey brought me here. Yes, bourbon. And I'm guessing that tequila brought you here."
"It's not what brought me here. It's what made me leave in the first place."
"Why did you leave?"
"My dad and I got into a fight and I just had to get out."
"If I may ask, what were you two fighting about?"
"The future, basically. He has my entire future planned out."
"You two want different things?"
"I don't know what I want, but I know it's not what my father has dreamed up for me."
"Of course, you know. You want the exact same thing that everybody else wants. But, you haven't realized it yet."
"Well, alright, all-knowing sorcerer, what is it that I desire?"
"You want an adventure with so much passion that it will consume you." I am about to reply to his answer when my phone starts ringing. I take it out of my pocket to see who it is. After seeing who it was, I immediately decline.
"That was my dad. I just can't talk to him right now," I say. I turn my phone off and put it in my pocket. When I look up, Damon is looking straight into my eyes. His pupils keep changing sizes. I end up in a daze.
"I want you to figure out what you desire. When you do, I want you to do everything you can to get it. But, you are going to forget this conversation. You're better off never knowing me at all. It was nice meeting you, Genesis," Damon says. I blink and my head starts to hurt a bit. I come to the assumption that I should stop drinking, even though I've only had one small glass of tequila. I turn and see that the man I was analyzing earlier has left. Then, I look at the clock and realize that I had just been blatantly sitting here for five minutes. It is about time that I left. I push my glass away, get some money out of my wallet, place it on the counter, and leave the bar. On my way to the car, I hear my phone play its ringtone. I get it out and see that it's my father. I sigh in aggravation when I see this. He's never going to stop calling until I answer, I think to myself. I answer the call and put my phone up to my ear.
