Chapter Thirteen - "Next Contestant"

Start from the beginning

Nodding, a resounding bang caught our attention.  The smell of sin was stronger and flowing into me, pumping into my bones.  Committing sin, or absorbing it, was like having an adrenaline rush.

Immi was looking around wildly, she was extremely uncomfortable.  I could see and could understand why.  Even if she was a fallen angel, she was still “in the light” as we put it.  Even the lightest angels could turn to the dark side.  I'd never met anyone who'd met a “demon-angel” but I was aware that it happened.  Very rarely.  Most of the time, they became human, unknown as to what they were.

“Alright, you ready?”  I asked her.  She gulped and nodded.  I could tell she was reluctant to my idea but it seemed to be the only one which would get her out safely.  Lifting her up, I pushed her out the window, avoiding looking up her dress.  As much as I would've liked to, she seemed too innocent and I don't think she'd appreciate it.  No doubt Harmony had taught her some “prude” ways.

I heard her yelp and whimper as she got through the window.  “What happened?”

She turned around before answering, “Yeah.  Just got caught.  I'll be fine.”  She looked around before talking again.  “Okay, there are some really, really big guys.  How am I supposed to get past them?”  Drat.  I hadn't thought about that.  Whilst these demons reeked of sin, she was probably releasing off her “innocent” scent.  There was no doubt they'd smell her soon.  “Also, how do I unlock the car?  Gustav took something out of his and it died...”

Sighing, I realised there was massive gaps in our plan but hopefully, she was bright enough to figure it out.  Shrugging out of my jacket, I passed it to her.

“The keys are in the pockets.  There should be one that looks like a padlock that's open. Click that and then click the one that's locked to lock the car.  Got that?”  I waited for her to nod before going on.  If she couldn't get into the car, she'd be in big trouble.  “Okay, and just run.  Keep running.”  Angels could gather up momentum pretty quick if they weren't interrupted.  It helped them to be able to fly, all they'd have to do is jump and open their wings and then poof!  Up in the air!

“A-aren't you coming?”  Her expression made me falter.  She was frightened.  Hearing the door burst open, I whipped my head round.

“No.  I'll get someone to meet you there if I can't be there.  Don't let anyone in unless it's someone you know, okay?  Only Harmony and that lot, got it?”  Tears were welling up in her eyes.  I knew she didn't want to go.  She was definitely petrified and I knew I wasn't making it any better, sending her out there on her own.

We locked eyes for a moment before I broke the contact.  “Go! Immi, go!”

Turning to the intruders, I saw that there were three of them.  All weedy looking guys.  I wasn't going to underestimate them though.  Ipos wouldn't just send anyone out.  He wasn't an idiot.  Every one of his men had a useful talent, something that would allow them to catch whatever he wanted.  I just needed to find what their talent was, and their weakness.  Normally, it wasn't as easy as it seemed, or looked.

“Ipos really knows how to pick them, huh?”  I casually started by insulting them.  To see if words had an affect on them.  Most of Ipos' weedy bunches were easily offended by being insulted.  They'd then try and show off, which landed them in a death trap.

“You reek of her.  Hand her over, loverboy.”  The middle man's voice was wheezy.  I wondered whether or not they were shapeshifters.  Maybe they were dimension-shifters.  It would make sense.
