"I need to talk to a human," he demanded.
"Sir, we can't just-"
"I have been locked in a cage for seven years!" he roared, throwing his hands. "Let me see my mother!"
Shaken, the guard stumbled back, allowing the man to pass through into the ball. It was filled with the richest of the rich people, women floating around in beautiful gowns, and long tuxedos for the bachelors, a custom in their society to show whether a man was available, and to prevent any sort of adultery.
It was also a masquerade ball, the man noticed as he stared blatantly at the people. They were all so beautiful..
An old woman approached him, and handed him a blue mask that covered the eyes and half the face. "I know who you seek," she whispered. "Keep walking till the music gets louder. You will find them at the center of it all."
The lady disappeared, leaving the man by himself. Someone offered him a flute of champagne, which he gladly took, setting off for his mother. On his way, he wondered idly if she would be proud of him, proud for what he did to his captor...
He soon found himself in the middle of the room, where a small assortment of people were playing instruments. He thought they sounded lovely. He kept walking, right through them, though, right into his mom's arms. She stopped playing her violin, wrapping him in an embrace.
People were watching them now, but neither one cared. They had been shipped off to different places, and now here they were again, both now free people.
The story of their journey ends here, but that doesn't mean their lives do. Until someone decided what to do with the characters, the boy hugged his mother very tight, waiting for someone to move them around. No matter what, however, this story would never tear them apart again.
A/N: I'm only doing an a/n on this one because I genuinely felt the need to apologize for the ending, I'm not quite sure what I was thinking when I wrote this. Side note, do you guys have any ideas for short story concepts I should write? Thank you!
