This is a song by Bob Jovi. Yes, I realize that at this point literally every other song is a Bon Jovi song but guess what it's a helpful song so it's going in here.

Enjoy, ya idgits!

I don't wanna be another wave in the ocean.
I am a rock not just another grain of sand.
Wanna be the one you run to when you need a shoulder.
I ain't a solder but I'm here to take a stand
Because we can.

She's in the kitchen staring out the window.
So tired of living life in black and white.
Right now she's missing those technicolor kisses
When he turns down the lights.

Lately he's feeling like a broken promise.
In a mirror he's staring down his doubt.
There's only one thing in this world that he knows.
He said forever and he'll never let her down.

I don't wanna be another wave in the ocean.
I am a rock not just another grain of sand.
Wanna be the one you run to when you need a shoulder.
I ain't a solder but I'm here to take a stand
Because we can.

TV and takeout on a coffee table.
Paper dishes, pour a glass of wine.
Turn down the sound and move a little closer.
And for the moment everything is alright.

I don't wanna be another wave in the ocean.
I am a rock not just another grain of sand.
Wanna be the one you run to when you need a shoulder.
I ain't a solder but I'm here to take a stand
Because we can.

Because we can, our love can move a mountain.
We can, if you believe in we.
We can, just wrap your arms around me.
We can, we can.

I don't wanna be another wave in the ocean.
I am a rock not just another grain of sand.
Wanna be the one you run to when you need a shoulder.
I ain't a solder but I'm here to take a stand

I don't wanna be another wave in the ocean.
I am a rock not just another grain of sand.
Wanna be the one you run to when you need a shoulder.
I ain't a solder but I'm here to take a stand

Because we can, our love can move a mountain.
We can, if you believe in we.
We can, just wrap your arms around me.
We can, we can.

Because we can.

Okay so some things about this song:

1) The lyrics. They start with the chorus, which is super uplifting, then go to the first verse. The verse is a little sadder, almost like two people who are trying to hold onto their last shred of hope. They hold on. Because they can.
That's how they survive.

2) If you listen to the music, not the lyrics, you notice that the guitar especially is louder at the chorus than through the less hopeful verses. In the verses it's quieter, more uncertain.

Between these two things, I know what this song tells me at least.

That you can do what you want. Rock out, be confident. You simply can. You want to be with somebody? Give it a shot. You can do it. Want to build a rocket? Go ahead. Who knows, you might be the dawn of an era.

But the only way you'll know is if you try. That's what this song is saying: "Do or do not. There is no try."

While I personally disagree, it does give you the motivation to actually do the thing because maybe you can do it.

Because you can.
