He could feel it coming.
A drilling in his chest, an entire ton of adrenaline dumped into his bloodstream in the span of a few seconds.
"Silly," she says, "I forget what your smile looks like. I forget how it feels to be wrapped up in your arms. I forget how it felt back when this relationship felt whole. It's grown all it can, our relationship can't grow and mature." As she continued, he felt his breath leave his lungs. The pounding in his chest grew louder, blaring in his ears so that he couldn't understand what she was saying.
"You make me happy," he said sadly.
"I can't make you happy in the long run," she breathes, leaving unspoken her own unhappiness. "I would never do this if it wasn't what was right for the both of us. We need this to grow."
He was numb. He didn't know what was happening, and then all of the sudden he felt stabbing pain before the numbness flashed back. He saw her sitting on her floor crying, sobbing so hard that she dropped her phone.
"I don't want to, but I can see that you are unhappy." He didn't know how he had managed to utter those few words.
"I love you," she said, all too aware of both their hearts breaking, "I'll miss you, silly."
"I'll miss you too." he said dazedly. As the phone beeped to signal the conversation was over, he put his head into his heads and turned out the light.
