Slate Chapter one: Cold

Cold, that was all I felt floating in a dark abyss. Broken only by an unholy hiss from some far off intangible place. The noise grew in intensity, until it felt like the powers of the maidens were knocking on my door. A small spark in the darkness to begin to grow, Light slowly trickling into my eyes. And with it various shades of grey. One of the blobs zoomed into my field of view, rather quickly I realized what this was and I shook up what very little of my aura I could to brace myself, Moments later the floor introduced itself to my face, My still groggy aura did very little to break the fall and I felt the warm flow of blood run down my face.

"maidens...why..." I coughed as I tried to rise to my feet, A small pit formed in my gut. "what the bloody hell happened" the aforementioned pit rose in protest to my movements and I felt my body empty itself of the bile in my gut. My legs gave way and I felt my self-laying in a pool of my own fluids.

"why..." I dryly whimpered as I struggled in the Puddle of slime to get up. "how long were we out?" I pondered aloud as I stumbled to move the lumps of clay that call themselves legs to wall for stability. Looking around the room I noticed it was much barer than I remember, the walls a Light Grey steel, the floor concrete. I glanced around the room, it was a uniform aviary, be It vip, but it was just as well a large grey steel box promised to protect us from the inevitable.

"made to last" I said mocking the nevermore Slogan as I fiddled with the pockets on my Slate Preservation under suit, its thin Kevlar weave promised to be bullet proof and uncomfortable as hell. "where did I put it" I rummaged around for a thin scrap of paper. "ah there you are" Pulling the note Opal had written for me out of a holster.

DON'T LOSE THIS GLEN!!!

Step one: Check the vital readouts on our pods, follow proper dumping procedures before waking up those that survived.

"wow.... ok...That was blunt" I stumbled along the wall still fighting for control over my now tingling legs. Making my way to my own pod, the Grey steel frame held an open pod, the bulk seal broken and frosty glass reveled the Velvet red chair I had been in for god knows how long. "ah nevermore.... always did like uniformity" I said looking at the other three pods each bulk seal still firmly in place. In the center of each was a small square hole that revealed the face of the occupant, I placed my hand on the pod next to mind its metal cold to the touch.

"Ello love" I said straining to see past my own silvery eyes into hers. I tore myself away from fiddling with my own Unkempt gold hair just long enough to press a button on the mounted scroll on the side of the pod. I heard its processor strain to startup as it typed out information.

/Occupant name:/Opal_nevermore/

It typed out things on her body type and physical makers, nothing I didn't already know so I moved on to Lauranna, then Sahara. Before returning to my list.

Step two... there is a scroll in on your pod its yours, press your thumb to the screen to get it off and then refer to your list.

"she acts like I can't read" I stumbled back to my pod, My legs deciding to have mercy on me this time, officials see an end to their protest soon. At my pod I looked and the mounted scroll status screen clicked it on.

/Occupant status/ Awake /

/Occupant name/ Glendedren_Drachen/

Before it could finish typing I pressed my thumbs firmly against its glass screen, the locks on the side disengaged and the Nevermore Override OS shut down as I pulled my scroll out of the glorified fridge.
