"Kyle, I am the greatest liar in the whole world" was the first thing Kyle heard after he picked up the call from Will. Judging by his friend's cheerful tone, he was having a far better day than him, although it took Kyle a while before he remembered what exactly he was talking about.

"What? You really pulled it off?" Kyle was genuinely impressed. When he offered Will that he would teach him how to play a simple song so he wouldn't embarrass himself too much in front of Dan, he wasn't expecting his friend to be an absolute disaster. For a musician, Will was learning awfully slow, and by the time Kyle had had enough and kicked him out of his room for the night, all he could manage was play the beginning of Let Her Go. Very poorly.
Seriously, Dan had to be mad to hire a pianist such as Will.

"Yeah, Dan said I'm in the band! As a bassist though, which is perfectly fine with me" Kyle ignored the pang in his chest after Will let out those words. Of course he was happy for his friend – he really was an amazing bassist - and sure, he had turned Dan's offers down numerous times, but now that Will of all people was there, he couldn't help but wonder if perhaps he had made a mistake.

"Hey, congrats. I'm glad my lesson paid off" Kyle's sincerity was maybe a little pretended, and he couldn't stop the slight bitterness that escaped along with it. 
Will seemed not to notice over his good mood though; instead he hummed cheerfully in response.

Every time Kyle's phone buzzed in his pocket, Janna shot him a mischievous grin. It had been happening ever since she found out about Dan, and Kyle was starting to suspect that she matched her shifts with his just to annoy him. He had told her countless times that Dan in fact wasn't the only one texting him, but it was as if he was talking to a wall.
That's why now, even when she was across the room helping a customer find cuttlebone, she couldn't resist grinning at him after she heard the well known ping. Kyle ignored her successfully, desperately trying to hide the smile which was already forming on his lips when 'Danny :)' appeared on the screen. It didn't work, he guessed.

I guess not. What happened?

I got a new member for my band! His name is Will, and he's really good at bass

Kyle had to hide his phone in order to ring up a customer, and he was glad as it gave him time to sort his thoughts. He was practically lying to Dan. It's not like Danny wouldn't find out he and Will were linked together, and what will Kyle say then? Sorry I lied, but my scared little ass thought everything would get screwed up if we met? Would it be better if he told him the truth straight away? How would Dan react? Should he ask Will first? Should he cut off contact with Dan and move to Mexico?

The customer left, leaving the shop empty save for a few children who were checking out the baby bunnies that arrived the previous day. Janna was crazy about them, and as Kyle suspected, was now happily cuddling one of them as the kids huddled around her.
When he picked up his phone again, there was already a flow of texts from Dan waiting for him, and this time he couldn't help but laugh out loud.

Still, I guess he was brave for carrying on performing. And he actually admitted he lied to me about being good at playing keys. And I play them anyways, it's not like I really needed him to do better

My friend Ralph said I shouldn't let him join when we met only yesterday, but he's pretty cool? Do you think I should have waited a few days?
