This person seemed to have come out of the woods and was stopped right in front of me. I could faintly make out what the figure looked like, it had crazy black hair, what looked like a black and white clown costume, and was holding something in both hands. I had heard about these clown sightings all over Twitter these days and was beyond terrified of this figure standing a couple hundred feet in front of me. I gasped, which seemed to bring about the attention of the "clown." He slowly turned toward me swaying his body and cocking his head to the side. From this angle I could clearly see what he was holding, creepy balloons in one hand, and a long knife in the other. I immediately started shaking in fear as I tried to take a step back. I had dropped the leash in fear when I first saw the figure, and my dog was probably back at my house by now. My shaking intensified as he took a lumbering step towards me swaying his body in a way that wasn't normal. I tried to take a step back, but soon smacked my butt against the cold hard concrete as I slipped in a puddle. I tried to crawl back as best as I could, but the "clown" figure was gaining on me. I couldn't even find enough breath in me to scream to alert someone of my danger. I knew that my next attempt at life was to try to get back up on my feet and run.
As I tried to stand up on shaky legs I felt two large arms wrap around me and quickly pull me around the corner. They spun me around so that my back was pressed against the wall and they stood inches from me. It was a boy. He clamped his large hand over my mouth as though to silence the scream he knew was coming.
"Shh," he whispered close enough to my face to feel his warm breath
His other arm was wrapped around my waist ensuring that I didn't fall on my shaky legs. His arms were so strong around me that I didn't even need to worry about if I could stand or not. Still holding me here, he peeked around the corner, let out a sigh of relief, and turned back to me. He met my eyes and we stared at each other in silence. I was completely speechless, how did this boy know where I was and that I was in danger? Why would he risk himself to save me? As I stared into his dark, intense eyes and asked myself these questions, he spoke.
"Are you ok?" He asked just loud enough for me to hear
I stuttered trying to find any words that would express my confusion; finally I managed to get out a "yes." He let go of me quickly and I stumbled to find my balance on my shaky legs. He looked around checking to make sure the coast was clear then started walking in the opposite direction of the alley. I stood as still as the wall behind me, watching him. After he took a few steps he turned around to face me.
"Well are you coming or not?" He asked irritably
I managed to take a few steps forward to meet him and we continued walking. We walked in complete silence until I finally had my breath back to ask him the question that had been plaguing my mind.
"How did you find me?" I asked looking up at this strange boy
His gaze was fixated on the ground as he kicked a pebble with his shoe.
"Um, I was out on a walk and I heard you in the alley." He said, sounding as if that was a rehearsed response.
"Ok let's just assume that that is a true statement. My second question is, why did you save me?" I asked
He shrugged in response
"I mean you could have just as easily left me and saved yourself, but you didn't. Why?" I asked
"I don't know ok? Can we just drop it?" He said suddenly angry
I was taken aback by his sudden change in attitude. I just decided to drop the subject. I didn't want to relive it again here in the dark with a strange boy that I knew nothing about.
"Ok fine, can you at least tel me your name?" I asked getting slightly irritated
Still, he stayed completely silent. He continued to stared intently at the ground.
"Fine you know what, I don't care if you talk to me, you were the one who wanted to save me just a few minutes ago, but I guess for some reason you can't even look at me anymore."
I looked away from the boy and shivered. I crossed my arms over my chest. My adrenaline had taken over during my incident with the clown and now that I had calmed down I noticed how cold it actually was. I hadn't even thought about taking a jacket seeing as it was packed in one of the many boxes and now I was completely regretting it.
"Are you cold?" The boy asked
Before I could answer with some witty remark he took off his sweatshirt and handed it to me.
"Thanks" I said as he nodded
I slipped the sweatshirt on and was immediately greeted by warmth. I hugged the sweatshirt tighter around my body and smiled to myself.
After a few more minutes of walking we had finally made it back to my house. The boy walked me all the way up to my front door and waited until I had unlocked the front door and stepped inside of my warm house. I turned around to face him.
"Thank you again. I don't know how you did it, but thank you for saving me."
He nodded in assent. Again I wondered why he was completely silent.
"Oh your jacket." I said as I started to take it off
"Keep it." He said looking down at his shoes
"Are you sure?" I asked as he nodded again
"Ok well thanks again." I said
He started to walk down the steps of my porch while I watched him go. He seemed to hesitate as soon as he reached the street. He then turned around one more time to face me.
"It's Grayson." He said
"What?" I asked in confusion
"My name... it's Grayson." He said
I laughed slightly to myself before answering
"Olivia." I replied
He nodded before he turned back around and walked across the street and into his house.
