Enmity

The hatred rolls off of you in waves, hoping to drown them. Them, those who had laughed at you, those who hadn't shown you proper respect. Those who didn't fear you. Their laughter is silenced, their eyes filled with disgust. No longer will they taunt or deride you. No longer will they acknowledge you other than a wary glance. Empty greetings in the hallway, looks filled with caution. But they're not scared, oh no. They aren't frightened, or threatened, or even fearful. They are apprehensive, their feelings don't even come from personal encounters. Stories, everywhere. Circulating at an alarming rate. Growing, twisting, until they are unrecognizable. A hardened look is all the confirmation they need to believe it. A lopsided smile all it takes to accept the rumors. Without being given a chance, you've turned into a monster. Well, if a monster's job is to scare people, then why not give them something to really be terrified of.
