Chapter 9: Go Dark

Jacob: " We have to wait till Ke texts us…." - He said rubbing his eyes, as he rubbed on Jasmine's arm. He mumbled, something as he looking towards me. - " None of this wouldn't have happen….If you didn't try to bet buck at lunch…." 

Ray: - I looked at him. - " Excuse me? What was that? " - I said letting go of Zendaya. -

Jacob: " You heard me, he could've been gone. None of this would've happened if you didn't act so immature in the cafeteria….." - He responded back, looking me up and down. - " You're nothing but bad news….."

Jasmine: " Jay, come on, stop. Your friend is being rushed to the hospital…." - She said sniffing, as he tried pulling him away. -

Jacob: " No its true, and he knows it. Thats why he's standing there looking stupid….." - He said being pulled away by Jasmine. - 

I stood there, letting it soak in. I shrugged my shoulders. Looking at Zendaya. Rod stood there, as he looked between Jacob and myself.

Ray: " I'm headed there……" - I said as I held Zendaya's hand, walking outside the school. The things he said echoed in my head. - "….Am I really bad news…..? " - I looked at Zendaya, asking her. -

Zendaya: " What? No….Rayon, you're not ok? " - She said, as she rubbed the side of my face with her cold hand. I looked down, as we got to my car. We sat in it, as I sat there in silent. - " Ray……" - She said, placing her hand on my leg, rubbing it.-

I turned on the car, letting it warm up. As I stared into space, picturing what would've happened if I didn't go over to check on him. I blinked, as I felt her touch my face. She turned my head slowly, as she looked into my eyes. I stared back into her light brown eyes. She leaned in, as she kissed me softly on the lips.

I tried to smile, I tried to kiss her back. But I couldn't, I looked at her. With this sad and confused look.

Zendaya: " Sorry….I thought that would've cheered you up…." - She said, as I placed my hand on top of hers. Bringing it to my lips, kissing it. -

Ray: " Its not you……" - I said softly, as I turned on the heat, the cold car started to warm up. As I closed my eyes, sighing heavily. I let go of her hand, as I started to drive. -

Zendaya: - She sat back in her chair. - " Its not your fault……" - She said, I looked at her out the corner of my eye, as I shrugged. - " Ray don't act like this…..Talk to me….." - She said, turning her body to face me. -

I focused on the road, as I ignored her. We drove towards the hospital after getting a text from Keke. 

We made it to the hospital, as I parked my car. I sat there, feeling Zendaya rub on my arm. I looked over to her, she could read the sadness in my eyes. The things Jacob said replayed in my mind over and over. What if it was my fault? I was the reason why we all got detention, Craig could've been left school and avoided this whole thing.

Zendaya: " Rayon….." - She said, as I snapped out of it. Zendaya leaned over, giving me a hug. Wrapping her arms around me, as I did the same back to her. - " Lets go….We can wait in the waiting area…." - She said as she kissed my cheek. -
