The water ran, until all the fluids were down the drain. My hands are starting to grow worn, from all the scrubbing, mopping. Constant contact with all these chemicals is starting to get to me too. Soon I'm going to relocate, and start all over think as I scrub feverishly trying to remove any imperfections from my house.

I've always loved the rain, I think of it as a refreshing yet untimely cleanse of the world I dread because of its impurities. Today as I walked to the playset not too far from my house, I decided to get on the swings. As I swung up here on this gloomy day I think back to a certain day in particular, I hear my mothers blood curling scream. "It's not real" I repeat quietly to myself as I rush away from the playset suddenly thinking about the write up I would receive for being late the third time this week. Feels like I didn't miss any of the puddles, seeing that by the time I made it to the subway station my rain boots were soaked. Today I was in such a unusually good mood that even all the missing people posters that usually make me feel bad didn't seem to faze me.
The ride to the department was usually abrupt , I squished my shoes all the way to the elevator. I pressed three and enjoyed the quiet of the elevator humming as it took me to my floor. Upon my entrance I was bombarded with "Good morning!" and "Chief wants to see you". I casually sashayed over to clock myself in, and grab my morning coffee before making my way over to Chief's office. My colorful desk and and creative figurines made my cubicle stand out against the rest of these bland, gray cubicles. As I walked pass my cubicle I caught Andrew's eye and he gave me a sly little wink. I just know he remembers what happened at the office Christmas party. Once I walk into Chief's office my personality changes, I'm no longer in control, no longer dominant. I'm then just a little mouse waiting to be pounced on by the giant wilder beast towering above me. Nonetheless I'm feeling empowered so today I knew would be different.
I knock on his door. He opens it as if he has been standing there for hours, waiting on my arrival. "What's up Doc?" I say as I walk pass the breathing statue at the door. "Jackie I'm sure you know why your here"Gary says with a grimace painted on his face. "No of course it can't be yet another crime in this crime ridden city!" I sarcastically remarked."No Jackie another person in the inner city has just been reported missing". "Boss I'm sure each and everyone of them has a miserable life that they're trying to escape from, not to say there is no crime but look at the victims. Wouldn't you consider them to be scum of the earth Gary?".
Gary paused and stared at the map of Detroit on his wall before replying "Jackie be more serious. This is third case we've had so far this month, Jackie I'm starting to think it's something bigger then just people running away from their problems. I want you to check it out". "But I'm already on this case and four others" "No buts Jackie I need you to do this" Gary repeated his famous line and flicked his wrist signaling for me to go away. "Great! So now all I have left to do is the rest of work around here!" I sarcastically stammered as I stormed out of the room pass the stuttering middle aged man. I slam the files on top of the other files waiting on my desk. While bending down to change from my rain boots into my stilettos I bumped my head on my desk, causing my snow globe to shatter into a million glittering shards on the floor.
And 1....2....3...."Need some help with that cutie?" Andrew says as he peeked over the wall that separates our desk. Before waiting for me to answer he jogged over to grab the broom and began to gather the glittery glass mess on the dustpan. He had just transferred here from a Chicago firm a couple months back. From what I knew he handled small cases like parking tickets and DWI's. I admire his masculine build for just a moment before noticing he had said something to me.
I adjust the falling hairs on my forehead as I say "Huh?" in the most confused way I could muster. His broad shoulders go limp as the chisel smile on his scrumptious chocolate face grows slightly dim. Seeing that today was starting off pretty good this ordeal of emotion sent me stranded, out of my character.
I said something that I thought I wouldn't ever say to him or any other human again. "Wanna go out for lunch late?". In return I got a heartwarming smile along with assurance that I'd enjoy myself.....with him.
