It goes without saying, you are a creature of the night. Even with Alternia destroyed and your entire race wiped from the face of your planet. Your bright red eyes, nubby horns, and pale ashen skin didn't die with your race. Your origin is clear, even in a doomed timeline. Here, you are stuck with a human, awaiting certain death. There are certainly worse fates than the one you find yourself faced with. At first, it was terrible. You hated each other, resented each other even. Resented the fact that the other lived instead of a close friend, that the other was lucky enough to live. Resented that the other was different, a race so unlike their own they couldn't find anything alike to their slain friends, the friends not as lucky as the stranger before them. But while the blonde had lost three, you had lost eleven, and didn't want to lose another. You stayed away from him as much as he stayed away from you. Your days were spent alone, trying to avoid the unavoidable. Your nights were cold and lonely, you watched stars be stamped into the night sky and grieved, tracing the familiar constellations with your eyes, glowing faintly in the dark. It was the night that brought you close to the human. You had almost forgotten about the other individual that shared this rock with you. After Kanaya got sick and died, you locked yourself away for a long time. The day you finally ventured out for more than just food, you ran into the human. You had yelled and screamed at each other, wishing the other would die, and one of their friends would replace them. It took awhile before you realized you had a lot in common with him. His name is Dave, with pale peach skin and blonde hair, he towered over you. You never saw him without his shades, and had never wanted to. While you two still hated each other, you learned from him. You learned about his friends, and their adventures. A boy named John, killed beside his quest bed. Two girls, one named Rose, who lost herself after the darkness consumed her, and Jade, killed by Jack Nior on her land, they didn't make it to the quest bed fast enough. You told him of your own friends. Aradia, who died long before the game, Tavros, killed by Vriska in a dual. Sollux, he died in his land after being ambushed by his denizen. Nepeta, slain by your former moirail alongside her own, Equius. Kanaya, she fell ill after Nepeta and Equius were killed. Terezi, who killed Vriska right before Vriska killed her, they attacked at the same time. Gamzee and Feferi were both victims of Eridan's rage, the last two to be killed. Eridan had killed himself shortly after, leaving you and Dave alone. You became friends after that, and each others anchors.

Dave had nightmares. There wasn't a night the blonde didn't creep into your room while he thought you were sleeping. You never said a word.

You didn't sleep much, nightmares of your own threatened you when you closed your eyes. Trolls didn't show any signs of sleep deprivation, you don't know how he noticed. But he did.

You had been sitting on the couch, staring at the book in your hands. You didn't read anymore. He had snuck up on you, walking into the room without a sound. He didn't say a word. You dropped your book, looking at him. You hadn't spoken to him in awhile, you were avoiding him. You didn't want to be alone when he died. The room was silent for a long time before he asked you. "What's up?" You didn't want to respond, but you did anyway. You didn't feel like yelling, you were tired. "Nothing." He was surprised. That same silence crept into the room. You had to tell him. You couldn't leave him like this. "I'm sick." He replied like it was nothing. "I'll get you something." You didn't have the heart too tell him. He came back with some tea, you didn't take it from him. He was confused, he didn't understand. You remembered telling him about Kanaya, you hadn't left her side. Incurred the full wrath of her sickness with her. "Kanaya got me sick." He starred at you, it took a second for it to sink in. He didn't want to be alone, you didn't want to leave him alone, but there was nothing you could do. He started babbling about something, he wanted to save you. He couldn't. You both knew it. You were going to die

It wasn't long after that. You were bed ridden for days, he helped you through. It was the first time you saw him without shades, you liked his eyes. You told him so.

You know he cried, when he thought you were sleeping. You weren't.

You knew the day you were going to die, you woke up with that feeling of certainty. You told Dave as much. Told him you were going to die. He believed you. If he could, he would go back in time, but he can't. He was heartbroken.

You did what you could. You felt tired. You wanted to sleep. You ignored Dave's begging, you knew you wouldn't wake up. You aren't stupid.

The last thing you did was smile.
