My mood instantly soared when I saw him ahead. He was there. I just had to create the courage to actually say the words. Today is the day I tell him, today I will ask him out. Taking a deep breath, I turned around to walk to him through the crowd. A smile that made my heart stutter lit up his face. "You look pretty happy today," I said.
"I am. It's a pretty great day," He responded confidently.
My stomach clenched. What if he rejects me? I couldn't help but feel a little disappointment at that thought. My mind was screaming at me to run before I had the chance to embarrass myself. Something wouldn't let me go though. Something was keeping me frozen in place, as if it knew I had to stay.
"Wanna go out?" He asked quickly, making me doubt I heard him right. I looked into his eyes to see him staring back at me nervously in anticipation. He said the words I had been longing to hear for a while. The words that Debra had stopped him from ever saying to me.
"Sure." I said quietly. If this was a dream, I didn't want to wake up. I smiled again, repeating his words in my mind. He asked me out. I held in the squeal that wanted to escape.
He watched me cautiously and said in an unsure tone, "I mean like on... like on a date type thing?"
That was what I had hoped he meant when he asked me. I couldn't help the laugh that left my lips, "Yeah I got that."
We stood there just smiling at each other in our own little world. I thought back to his earlier words and agreed with him. It's a pretty great day.
