This isn't a drawing but I thought it would be important to share.

As I said many times before, Diata's character is inspired by the real documentary 'Roots' and I have been given the opportunity to visit the Kunta Kinte-Alex Haley memorial in Annapolis, Maryland where Kunta Kinte, the west African man who was taken from his home and to Annapolis, Maryland and from there was sold to a slave owner in Virginia.

For me, it was really interesting to imagine what he had to go through—being stripped down, boughten as if he were some kind of cattle, and sent to work for the rest of his life on a plantation. Not a lot of African-Americans in the US get the chance to trace their family heritage all the way back to Africa, including my own family. I am part Native American myself, but I have no clue who my ancestors, or how they got from Africa to here, so... It was a strange, yet inspiring experience.

Once again, I implore all of you to watch the documentary, Roots, the original and the remake are both amazing and definitely will change your life. Or, you could read the original book by Alex Haley, which is just as phenomenal—fun fact: my godmother was very close friends with him and got our copy of Roots signed by him 😊!

Here's a few pictures I took of the memorial!
