I'm currently in line to audition for X Factor and I'm extremely nervous. My number gets called, and I assume that it is my turn to take the stage, but the stage manager takes me over to his seat and asks me where I'm from and about my life. "Well, I'm Annie Dalton and I'm from London. I'm an assistant for my aunt at her real estate office. I never wanted to be stuck in a 9 to 5 job, but I want to be a singer and make people smile. My main goal currently is just to have fun with life."The stage manager smiles and wishes me luck, sending me to the stage. When I look back, I can tell that the smile and the message from the manager was genuine
When I get on stage, the judges smile at me, and I smile back.
"Hi." I say shyly.
"Hello." Tulisa says sweetly, smiling warmly. It makes me feel less shy.
"What's your name, love?" Louis asks
"Annie Dalton" I say, more confidently this time.
"What's the dream, sweetheart?" Kelly asks.
"I want to make people happy through my music."
"Off you go, love." I nod and wait for the music to start.
The music starts, and I start singing. The pit of anxiety tightens as I start, afraid I'll mess up. But I keep singing.
If this is redemption, why do I bother at all? As the song continues, I feel the anxiety start to drain away. I continue with the song, content with how my performance is going.
There's nothing to mention, and nothing has changed
Still I'd rather be working for something, than praying for the rain
So I wander on, until someone else is saved
I moved to the coast, under a mountain
Swam in the ocean, slept on my own
At dawn I would watch the sun cut ribbons through the bay
I'd remember all the things my mother wrote
That we don't eat until your father's at the table
We don't drink until the devil's turned to dust
Never once has any man I've met been able to love
So if I were you, I'd have a little trust
Two thousand years, I've been in that water
Two thousand years, sunk like a stone
Desperately reaching for nets
That the fishermen have thrown
Trying to find, a little bit of hope
Me, I was holding all of my secrets soft and hid
Pages were folded, then there was nothing at all
So if in the future I might need myself a savior
I'll remember what was written on that wall
That we don't eat until your father's at the table
We don't drink until the devil's turned to dust
Never once has any man I've met been able to love
So if I were you, I'd have a little trust
Am I an honest man and true?
Have I been good to you at all?
Oh I'm so tired of playing these games
We'd just be running down
The same old lines, the same old stories of
Breathless trains and, worn down glories
Houses burning, worlds that turn on their own
So we don't eat until your father's at the table
We don't drink until the devil's turned to dust
Never once has any man I've met been able to love
So if I were you my friend, I'd learn to have just a little bit of trust
I finish the song and smile. "Wow," Kelly says in awe, a shocked expression on her face. "YOU HAVE AN AMAZING VOICE! Definitely a yes from me."
"It was missing something for me, love." Gary said sadly. A chorus of "boos" erupted from the audience. "But I'll give you a chance. It's a yes."
"Yes from me." Tulsia says happily. "Well, Annie," I bit my lip in fear. "It's a yes from me." I almost scream, I'm so happy. I give a wide grin. "Thank you." I say, walking off the stage. I hug my mum, Aunt Shay, and my friends Cat, Jade, and my sister Ariel. I also give a hug to my sister-in-law Marie and my brother David.
This is gonna be a crazy ride
