Widowmaker X Reader (Part 2): That Life is Gone

Start from the beginning

"As you wish."

You turned around, and there she was.

Amelie.

The first thing you noticed was that she wasn't in her normal uniform. Her visor was absent, her hair was let down, and she wore a deep maroon backless silk dress. It reached to her ankles, where you also took notice of her ebony high heels. Gunmetal bracelets adorned her right and left arms. Finally, you could see a small choker, emblazoned with a spider.

"Wow," you gasped.

"I'm impartial," she stated, "but I wanted to look nice for you, chérie." Although her facial expression didn't change, you could tell from the tone of her voice that she was happy to see you.

You walked over to her. She stood a few inches higher than you. You hugged her first.

"I missed you." You said. She gripped your back as her arms wrapped around it.

The next half hour was spent on catching up with each other. Amelie revealed that, when she wasn't assigned any missions by Talon, she would sometimes watch you from afar. She claimed it was to watch over you, no pun intended, but that fact gave you the creeps.

Suddenly, a slow dance song came on, and Amelie was already on her feet. You followed mere moments after. Your arms assumed the classic position, and you began to sway to the music.

"So," you said, "as much as I want to believe you stopped by just for me, I have a feeling that that isn't the case." Amelie sighed.

"Oui, but what I came for can wait for now." Her voice was soft. "Right now, I just want to focus on you." Your cheeks flushed.

"Question." You looked at her, and her head cocked to the side. "Do you ever think about leaving Talon? I have a feeling that, after some time, and some effort made, the others would be happy to see you." Amelie looked away.

"Your optimism is welcome, but... non. That life is gone." She stated.

"It's not gone." You denied, and she looked at you, a rather sad expression taking over her face. "It's just... buried, I think. I dunno, I feel like we, together, could bring it back." You gave her a smile.

For a second, you could have sworn you saw tears welling up in here eyes. But she closed her eyes and looked away. When she looked back at you, a smile overtook her. It always made you happy, to see her normally stoic demeanor melt away and reveal her innermost thoughts.

"Viens ici, toi." She pulled you close, and an intimate kiss was shared between the two of you. At one point, she stopped and whispered, "You're so kind, Y/n. I envy that." Then, the reunion. Neither of you wanted it to end.

But it did, with a distinct noise that sounded like gunfire.

You broke the kiss and looked around.

"What was that?" You wondered out loud.

"I'm sure it was nothing." Amelie said, after a pause.

The gunfire returned, and it sounded louder. You began to look around, but you didn't see anything wrong. That is, until one of the guards was swiftly attacked.

You turned to Amelie and said "Hold that thought." You tapped the earpiece in your ear. "Ethan. Report." No response.

At that moment, you felt something prick the side of your neck. Groaning, you pulled it out, and saw that it was a dart. You looked at Amelie, who had not moved from her spot, and was looking away. A look of confusion crossed your face.

"Sleeping agents." She responded to the question you didn't even ask. You began to feel very tired, and your knee buckled. She turned and ran towards you. "Breathe," she whispered.

"Amelie..." You struggled to get the word out.

"I'm sorry," she cooed, and kissed you on the forehead.

"Amelie..."

Laser fire hailed above you. You could hear a British voice yelling, bit you couldn't focus on what she was saying. Amelie ran and jumped over the fence. A ship flew up and above the party, where gunfire could be seen. The man standing at the end of the podium was gunned down. Lena was preoccupied with fighting Talon soldiers. The sleeping agents took over, and your vision began to blur. Your last thought before you passed out was Amelie, and her last words to you.

"I'm sorry."

You woke with a start. You were back at base, in your bed, and still in your party clothes. Lena was sitting beside you.

"Oh my god! Y/n!" She helped you sit up. "Are you all right, love?"

"Yeah, I just feel like I got horse tranquilizer injected in me." You gripped your head and looked at Lena with one eye open. "What happened before I went under?"

Lena's eyes widened, and she looked away.

"We... we failed." She admitted, in a somber tone.

You couldn't believe it. She distracted you, and let your guard down. You gripped the bedsheets with a shaking fist, and tears began to roll down your face.

You failed.

From somewhere nearby, Amelie was there, watching you from the window. Her mission was successful, and yet she felt even more numb. She couldn't bear to see you like this. She turned away.

"S'il vout plaît pardonnez-moi, Y/n."

A tear fell down her cheek, and she walked away.
