Dave sat on the couch and looked about himself; it was much bigger than the room he had called home at Numan before having been introduced to his...partner. It was also full of things he hadn't seen before, like the couch he was currently sitting on, for instance. In his own room he'd had a bed, a toilet and a sink with a faucet. All the walls had been white with a few horizontal, colored bands running across the middle, just like the outfit he had been wearing.
He looked down at the clothes he was wearing now; dark pants of a blue, fairly tough material made the backs of his knees feel a little cramped, but they were certainly nice and warm. The sweater he was wearing was gray with a dark blue pattern running across it which he didn't recognize. This, too was a lot warmer than the Numan shirt he had grown accustomed to wearing. He plucked at it, noticing small bit of fuzzy stuff which came off easily. Collecting some of it in his hand he held it up and studied it; never having seen anything like it he found it most unusual.
Giving the room a second glance he could see no toilet here, nor could he see a sink. He wondered if this man even had one, if this truly was where he lived. The friendly man hadn't actually told Dave his name, so he was unsure what to call him. Perhaps he had the same name as his partner? Wouldn't that be convenient. Although, Dave noted with a sudden wave of sadness rising, if he did then that would serve as a reminder of the rejection he had suffered at his partner, Derrick's hands.
He didn't want to touch anything as the nice man had said not to if he didn't know what it was. Upsetting the nice man would be a very bad idea as Dave was extremely happy about no longer having to wander aimlessly, avoiding being found by the bad men.
When he had been discovered by...new-Derrick...on board the shuttle Dave had already been there for what seemed like half a day. Before that he had spent the night hiding behind things, unsure where he was or where to go. One thing he did know; he couldn't go back.
Back at Numan Dave had been on his own for all of his living memory. How long that had been exactly he couldn't be sure, but it seemed like a long time. He didn't remember how it had started, exactly. His earliest memories were of sitting down in the room connected to his own and learning how to speak properly. A screen had floated in the air in front of him and a disembodied voice had asked him to read aloud the words as they appeared. Compared to today he'd had very few thoughts about anything. At the start of this exercise he had knowledge of only very basic words. He found, though, that as he read out the new words he also gained insight in to their meanings. This was the start of his clear memories.
He had done a lot of exercises; running, walking, picking things up and putting them down again. There had also been a few 'encounters' with other humans who were not Derrick, or new-Derrick. They too were wearing the same clothes and seemed to be learning new things every day. Sometimes he would join in on one of their exercises which required more than one person to complete; he'd had a few of those himself. Other times the encounters would be of a more intimate nature.
Normally one such event would start at the end of all other learning activities. Dave would be ordered back in to his room where he would wait. If food arrived through a panel in the wall then there would be no further activities that day. If the door opened, instead, then in would come one of the other students. The door would lock and the disembodied voice would tell them that it would not unlock until after one or both of them had been satisfied.
Dave found these events to be particularly fun. He liked learning, a lot, but it did not bring with it the sheer physical pleasure that the encounters with these other people did. The first one of these events had been a little awkward at first. He had no idea what was expected of him. His guest did, however, and quickly instructed him in what they needed to do. His name was James; Dave remembered this clearly even though they had only met that one time. Funnily enough James had also been the only one not wearing the same clothes as Dave and the others.
James had introduced Dave to activities he had never even imagined; they involved stripping down, removing the one difference between them, and using parts on his body like he never had done before. Some of it was enjoyable, others not so much. Either way he had a high will to please and eventually found a way to appreciate or deal with the less desirable aspects.
Whenever James was involved in these 'teachings' they also discussed different likes and dislikes that people in general and his partner-to-be had. Any mention of Derrick, literally the man of his dreams, made Dave pay particular attention; he needed to know as much about him as he possibly could.
