As I gripped that door, the first thing that hit me was how wide it opened. I suppose it surprised me because I thought it was going to fall off, but it was much more likely to hit the car beside it. No, not this time. This door is fixed and ready for action. I fell back on the beige leather seat. The car was low, but I was small. As I pulled the door in forcefully, my attention was caught by the CD player. No MP3 support, of course, and that's how I liked it. That's why I brought the CDs. I loaded up a personal favourite, the album which had first lead to my discovery of this beautiful model of car.
I'd never really been interested in cars; I wasn't going to be a mechanic, was I? So I didn't see the need to bore myself with that. However, every now and again I'd wanted to pick up knowledge about the inner workings of the car, but that intimidated me quite a bit. I remember watching a TV show when I was younger, and a central part of it was the family car. When characters talked about it I felt like an outsider, not knowing almost anything about cars apart from that some of them were beautiful.

Trans-American Dream
Short StoryI've always wanted a Trans Am. That is, a 1977 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. And I've always wanted to cross America in it. NOTES: image of Trans Am on front cover is from Motorpedia.com
