So Many Lives

by sloanranger

Long ago in days of yore,

when history was still young;

two lovers met beside a stream,

their love forever sung.

They'd coupled many times - their souls had not forgot,

they came together everywhere and every chance they got.

Now it seems she's sighted him, in this life at last;

can she bring his memory round, to all the lives they've passed?

If she came into his window

upon a night so dark,

floated just above him

would love at last, re-start?

If she moved across his face and brushed her lips to his,

could he at last recall, would it take away time's mist?

So many lives upon the earth, we've come to distant shores.

How many more must we search that we have lived before?

Staring at a summer sky,

near tree and grass below,

can you not recall as yet,

those days of long ago?

Must I tell you who that was - still you can't remember?

Their courtship lasted seven months, we married in December.

Know you not that we belong, together, you and I?

My soul does wait for you, that stream - that tree and summer sky.
