My therapy session had ended and I was on my way to the elevator. I got onto the elevator to go from the 6th floor to the lobby. As the elevator doors were about to close, a large hand appeared between them. The doors opened again, revealing the owner of the large hand. A handsome guy appeared. He was tall, about 6 feet. His hair was a combination of blonde and brown. His eyes were the most amazing blue eyes I had ever seen, though they felt vaguely familiar. He had really nice, smooth skin. I studied his narrow lips and fitted nose.

"Are you going to the lobby?" He said in a deep voice along with an Irish accent.

"Y..yes, I am," the words sounded forced.

He smiled, revealing perfect white teeth. I then realized that I'd been staring at him since he came to the elevator. I stepped to the side, focusing my eyes on my feet as he made his way to the back corner. The elevator closed and we were on our way down to the lobby.

I could feel his eyes on me. "So What's your name, beautiful?" I turned around to find him staring at me intently. "Me?" A deep chuckle escaped his lips that caused an ache in my belly.

"Yes. We're the only two people in this elevator."

My heart started pounding uncontrollably as I realized we actually were the only people in this elevator. I think he noticed this because he said, "Don't worry. I'm not gonna hurt you. I'm Niall. " he extended his hand, gesturing me to take it. I swallowed the lump in my throat as I shook his hand. The touch sent shivers down my spine. " I'm Maschae'. Nice to meet you." He held my hand a long moment before letting go. The elevator came to a stop, letting in a crowd of people. I hurriedly made my way out of the elevator, pushing through the crowd , and out of the building to my car.

My cellphone vibrated in my pocket as I unlocked the door to my apartment. I quickly opened up the door and sat my bag on the dining table to answer my phone.

"Hi, mom!" I said a little too excitedly.

"Hi, hun. How was therapy with Dr. Vendetta today?"

"It was interesting. She got through to me today."

A loud shriek came through the phone, followed by my mom's voice. "Oh, Maschae' I'm so happy you're finally speaking to her. She's just trying to help you get through this, you know."

"I know mom, I'm starting to see that now." My mom had been my only strength since she was always there for me. Our life has been very challenging. We both had been through a lot, which is probably why we have a close bond.

"Maschae' I really want you to move past this. It's tearing you apart and I don't know how else to help you except support you and be here for you," she said with concern in her voice.

"I know mom, I'm really trying to get better." I tried to reassure her.

"I know sweetheart. Listen, I have to attend a meeting so I'll talk to you later, okay?"

"Alright mom, love you."

"I love you too, sweetie."

I hung up the phone and made my way to the bathroom. I let the water run in the tub for a few minutes while I went to my bedroom, took off my clothes, and grabbed my robe. I went back into the bathroom and settled in the tub. I relaxed in the warm water, the quietness all around me. As I was drifting off, I heard my phone. "Hello," I snapped.

"Yeesh, What's with you?" Sam's voice boomed through the phone.

Samantha Daniels was my best friend. We met our freshman year in high school when she hit me in the head with a volleyball during gym class. We'd been friends ever since.
