The sun shone so brightly for an autumn's day, the birds sang and the cherry blossom trees laid their leaves on the ground. The park wasn't as full as it would be on a Sunday afternoon, some children playing here and there and parents contemplating the beauty of nature. Wonwoo plugged his earphones in and played his piano playlist, while his hands held a novel that has been borrowed from the library not so far from his house. His finger tips brushed against the yellow paper, flipping pages to read others. The tree he was sitting under was casting a shadow sheltering him from the sun rays that weren't so pleasing to an introvert as himself. He wasn't paying any attention to his surroundings, not even the sound of footsteps nearing him nor a deep voice asking him for permission to sit next to him were noticed. He felt a hand on his shoulder, adverted his gaze from the book to meet a quite tall boy, his age or slightly younger with brown hair and a very beautiful smile. Seeing that the boy had something to say, Wonwoo stopped the music and payed attention to him.
" Can i sit here?" A rather deep voice demanded, and Wonwoo nodded.
"Sure." The response was short but it didn't matter. The brown haired boy smiled then mouthed a "thanks" before sitting next to the teenager in front of him. He rested his head against the tree and exhaled, unsure of what to do to initiate a conversation with the boy that caught his attention when all he wanted to do was play with his dog. Wonwoo was engrossed in his book, registering the words he didn't comprehend in his mind to search up their meanings later that day. His knitted brows were taken by the boy seated next to him as a "don't disturb" sign as he seemed too concentrated. He finally, and after 15 minutes of debating whether or not he should say something to talk to the other male, turned his head towards him and tapped his shoulder. The other turned his attention to the person asking for it, then hummed.
"I was wondering if we could, um,talk for a bit? If you don't mind."
The question wasn't one that Wonwoo would normally answer with a yes, but something in his mind pushed him to agree.
"I don't mind." He replied after a long time.
"Cool. My name is Mingyu by the way."
"Wonwoo, nice to meet you." Wonwoo rethought his choices on whether he should excuse himself and go, because this was the most he could say to anyone, especially a stranger. But it would be rude, he thought.
"Do you come here often? It's the first time I've seen you here."
"I don't actually, but it's not my first time. I prefer staying home or going to a calmer place" It was the first time Wonwoo replied using a full sentence, and it was weird for him.
"I prefer being outside, where it's sunny and the sky is blue and i can walk my dog. It's better, don't you think?" This was enough to tell Wonwoo that the latter was the opposite of him, his personality was way different from his and everything about him screamed happy, when on the other hand, he was everything but that. The rest of the conversation confirmed what Wonwoo thought about Mingyu, but nevertheless he kept talking to him. They exchanged numbers and learned that they attend the same school. They bid goodbyes and once Wonwoo reached his house, he received a text message from an unknown number, which he guessed to be Mingyu's.
Unknown: I really enjoyed talking to you, maybe we can hang out sometime? :)
Wonwoo bit his lower lip. He never had friends before, for he was too shy to talk to someone, or wasn't too interested. He believed that friends aren't that necessary to one's life. But he didn't want to seem uninteresting to Mingyu, thus, he replied and it lead to them talking for hours and causing smiles to stretch on the older's face which was very rare. He felt happy.
