Chapter 21: Attraction

Start from the beginning

Calm mate, calm mate. Lyra chanted in my head and took control of my actions. Before I could understand the consequences of my doings my hands were on Sylvester's face, trying to calm him down.

"What is it that you wanted for me to know, Sylvester?" I asked, looking straight into his grey eyes that were lighter now.

"Not here. Let's go to the pack house, I'll explain everything." He gestured for me to follow him.

"Why can't you tell me now?" I demanded getting a hold of his arm, ignoring the sparks, I continued my interrogation.

"Why were your people following me, Sylvester?" My neutral reaction to it all was rather confusing. He had men keeping an eye on me, but I was giving him a benefit of doubt for some reason.

"Delphi, please, let's go to the pack house. There is a lot I've to explain." He tried once again. But I had reached my limit of empathising.

"No. Why should I?" I exasperated, much to my wolf's dismay. She wanted nothing else but to go to him.
"Someone is after you, Delphi." That shut me up. Seeing my lack of response he walked towards his car with me in tow. He opened the passengers seat and gestured me to get in. While I was more than capable of opening the door myself, it felt nice to have someone to want to do it for me.

The ride to the pack house was quiet as I looked outside the window and feared the inevitable. The last time I had been in the car had been a difficult time and I made sure not to thing about that too much.

We went inside the pack house and came face to face with the three men that were instructed to follow me. They were all standing in the same order. It looked like they were more disappointed in themselves than he was.
"I'll see you all tomorrow. Do as you were instructed earlier." Sylvester spoke in his Alpha voice, displeasure coating his ever word. I would be scared if I were them.

"Come with me." He told me to follow him upstairs.
"Whoa, okay. I'm not going inside your room. That is a big no." I shook my head seeing him push open a mahogany door.

"Don't worry yourself, though I want nothing else but for you to be in my room, we have serious matters to discuss. It's my office." Sylvester's husky voice sent my wolf to a frenzy and me quite close to it.

He sat beside me on the office sofa and turned to face me, the close proximity caught me by surprise.

"I got a message from an unknown number yesterday, Delphi." He started, the seriousness on his face alerted me.

"It was a message threatening you. Now, I'm not so stupid to believe in a random message. I want you to know everything and that is why I am disclosing this to you. This is not to be repeated, Delphi. Not to anyone." I nodded at him with utmost sincerity, "The pack borders were breached yesterday just before I received the message. Not only that, this morning somebody left this at the door." He stated thrusting a bunch of pictures my way. I hadn't even noticed them in his hand before.

The pictures were of me everywhere, in my room, in the car, the cottage; everywhere. And though I believe someone could zoom in and capture pictures, the pictures looked to have been taken from a very close angle.

The pictures continued to confirm the severity of the situation. My hands shook as I slowly put two and two together. I wanted to deny such a scenario could ever arise.

"I didn't know what to do, so I sent some of my men to be around you. Now, I know you can-" before he could finish, I hugged him. His closeness and worry for me was too overwhelming with the current circumstances in hand.

I needed to feel his presence, the safety. I needed to believe they couldn't get me. I felt tears running down my cheek, knowing that I had run out of time.
He didn't say anything more but simply comforted me.

"Thank you, Sylvester." I murmured into his chest. It had been so long since I had someone else worry about the monsters of my past, I had forgotten how much I needed that support.
He had changed or perhaps he had always been this way and I was too indifferent to notice.

He had emotions that could not be faked, the concern in his eyes. Moreover, the fear.
I had hidden so many things to say but I didn't know how.

"I'll not let them get you, Delphi. Don't think about it." Sylvester whispered in my ear, caressing my hair slowly. It calmed the storm in my heart by a fraction.

He didn't know what he was dealing with. He didn't know what he was trying to protect me from.
And he deserved to know.

For some reason, I felt the need to confide in him.
Shouldn't I?
