"Prepared to lose?" Noah calls.

"Definitely!" I call back.

I roll my shoulders and crack my neck, preparing myself.

I get in position.

He pitches, trying to get me out.

I don't even give him a chance to hope.

I swing.

The bat makes an ear shattering sound, and the ball goes soaring.

I watch it fly out of the stadium.

"Rusty my ass!" I call to Noah, jogging the bases.

"Coach!" Noah says. "I swear, I want one game when I'm on her team!" Noah says. "I always get the shitty players! Why does she get all the good people?"

"Because you're wrapped around her finger, that's why!" Ben calls.

We played the whole game, and we won, twenty three to nothing.

Noah is really angry.

"I want another game, and this time, I want to be on Brecklyn's team!" Noah says, angry.

"Alright, fine!" Coach calls. "One more game. It'll be nice to see how the McCarthy's work together! Noah, you're captain."

"What?" I yell. "Why does he get to be captain?"

"Because I'm the better player." Noah says. "And he knows we're going to win if we've got both of us."

I grit my teeth.

"We'll see about that."

I intentionally kept getting fouls and missing, and pretending to be scared of the ball.

Before the first inning was through, Noah forfeited.

He begged me to do another round and to actually take it seriously.

I agreed, and we're destroying the other team.

Ben's the captian on that team.

I hit a ball and it went across the field.

I'm running, and Ben throws the ball, trying to get it to Ross.

He misses though, hitting me instead.

He threw it hard.

The pain has me on the ground in seconds.

I'm on all fours now, but I need to lay down.

The pain is so intense. I lay down on my back, my left arm over my eyes, my right hand resting over my right hip.

It hurts so bad. My ears are ringing. I can't hear anything.

I think somebody is touching me, and I'm pretty sure somebody is talking to me.

I don't know.

Somebody lifts my right hand, and my shirt.

It hurts so bad.

After a while, I think I hear Noah.

"Brecklyn! Brecklyn!" he's frantic.

The world is starting to come into focus now, but I can't move.

"Answer me!" he says. "Can you move?"

I shake my head.

"Okay, on a scale of one to ten, how bad is the pain?" Coach asks. "Use your fingers." He adds.

I open my mouth to answer him, but I choke on a cough.

I lift myself up, coughing.

Something that takes like iron leaves my mouth when I cough.

"Take me to the hospital." I choke out.

I feel myself being lifted.

I don't care who it is. I hide my face in the person, and I can tell it's Noah.

He's running.

Noah

We rushed her to the hospital, and the doctors took her from us and told us to stay in the waiting room.

She was coughing blood.

I keep sitting, and then getting up to start pacing, and then I sit down again, and then I pace again.

A doctor comes out into the waiting room, walking right over to all of us.

"We got her upstairs and were taking her to run some tests when she passed out from the pain. We need to take her into an emergency surgery, but we can't without consent. Who is her power of attorney."

"I am." I say. "What's wrong with her?" I ask.

"We don't know." I say.

"You're going in blind?" Charlotte blurts.

"Yes." He says.

I sign the papers.

"We will do everything we can." He says.

He leaves.

I feel like I'm going to throw up.

"She could've...ruptured something. Her stomach, Her bladder. Her colon, her intestine, she could've fucked up an artery in her heart-"

"Liam, shut up." I say.

He silences.

"Sorry."
