Ryan is headed off to NYU, hoping to gain all the knowledge and experience she needs to become a designer. New York is the city of dreams and she has plenty to fulfill. She's a creative soul and sees the beauty in everything around her. Excited to f...
Ryan, Breathe in slowly, exhale softly. Again, breathe in slowly, exhale softly. Why do people do this again? I always give it a shot but the shit never actually works. Let's just try a pep talk instead. Okay, we'll be fine, college will be fun, our roommate will be great. That sounded more like a prayer than a pep talk but I suppose it'll do. Ryan thought to herself. She didn't want to show the people that might be wandering the narrow halls around her how nervous she was, so the sweat that was dripping from her hands decided to do all the talking.
She was finally at the college she had always dreamed of going to. New York University. She never felt like the smartest in her class but she had gotten and deserved that SAT score of 1430 to get in. It definitely helped that her college essay so passionately conveyed her dreams of becoming a designer but either way she was a shoo in. She was always fashionable and fashionably late. She loved to draw in her free time and boy could she create. She saw the beauty in everything she looked at and could capture it perfectly with a canvas or camera. She's simply gifted. Her artistry undeniable.
She opened the door to her dorm lugging some of her many suitcases inside with her parents struggling with the rest not too far behind her. She dropped her bags and stood in awe of what she saw as a blank canvas and opportunity to paint. Her empty dorm.

"Ryan... you do know you won't be living here for the rest of your life, right? It's just for freshman year" Raymond, Ryan's out of breath father, huffed out.
"Well she definitely packed enough to do so, if they let her" Danielle, her also tired mother, added laughing.
Ryan could barely hear them from how loud her thoughts were. She wasn't paying enough attention to respond. This new project she would call her living space for the next 10 months occupied all the space in her mind.
"Ryan, lets at least get started on unpacking all your clothes. We need to get to the Walmart in New Jersey. New York City doesn't even have one. Walmart has to be your favorite store and you choose a school with the closest one in the next state. The traffic here is killer and we can't stay all day" Raymond said. He'd complained about everything he laid his eyes on in NYC so far but none of it fazed Ryan. She loved it. She knew she would.
Ryan almost forgot her parents had to go back to Michigan. She isn't used to being alone and depended on them for quite a lot. Her dad was her best friend and her mother was her biggest critic and supporter.
10 months, no parents. This all feels so fake. I've never had to be without them and it breaks my heart to be so far away but maybe this could be a good thing. I really should start being more independent. I just hope I'm ready for it. Ryan takes new york. Ryan thinks to herself as she takes her pre-folded clothes out of her suitcase and places them in her dresser.
