I Don't Give A Damn

It's the first day of school and I couldn't be anymore nervous than I am right now. I woke up super early, 5:32 to be exact only to realize I got 4 hours of sleep. Nothing could get me to shut my eyes again as the butterflies in my stomach kept me from doing so.

I've been going to St. Woodbridge for all of my life, yet I can never shake this feeling. I'm not the most popular girl, but I'm not an outcast. I'm just a simple girl who's trying to get through her senior year without anymore drama.

I heard my mom shuffling around downstairs. "London! Are you awake?", she yelled, knowing I probably was. "Yeah, I couldn't fall back asleep", I replied walking down the stairs meeting her. "Every year huh, you never seem to break this curse", she bumped my hips with hers, "So, what do you want for breakfast sweet pea?"

After I finished some chocolate chip pancakes, I took a look at the clock and saw it was time to go. "I gotta go mom, thank you for breakfast". She smiled at me, "No problem honey, have a good time at school and make sure you're respectful." I rolled my eyes in a playful manner, "of course mom". She winked at me as I turned around to leave.

I took one last look into our huge hallway mirror. I was wearing American eagle cut off shorts with a slight cropped maroon shirt. My long blonde hair was loosely curled and I had a fair amount of makeup that looked natural. I slipped on my all white nike roshes and grabbed my bag.

As I walked outside I noticed that my 2000 Chevy Cobalt was gone and in its place was a brand new 2018 Dodge Dart. My jaw dropped as I gawked at the car. I heard my mom giggling from the door as I turned around to meet her with wide eyes. "Who's beautiful car is this", my voice slightly wavered. I got a pair a keys tossed to me as a response, I squealed running to my new baby. Tears brimmed my eyes as I turned around, "Thank you so much." I had to choke back a sob as my mom smiled, "Well we made a deal didn't we? You stayed out of trouble this summer and you got a new car." I nodded excitingly getting into the car. I waved to her as I pulled out, "I love you! Have a good day!" I drove away seeing her wave back from our porch.

I have to admit, having a more than lame summer was worth it. It also gave me time to rebuild myself and the relationships I lost when I was tied down to that pig.

I wrinkled my nose in disgust that I was even still thinking about him. After that night I turned into someone I'm not. I walked right into a party and let lose without any care in the world.

No stupid cheaters, No nasty step-moms, No regrets.

At least that's how I thought it would be.

I do regret a lot of my choices. One being the night of the party when I got arrested with this guy named, Brody. But I pushed all of those thoughts away. This year is my year to get back on my feet.

Good thing I'll never see him or Brody again.

Or so I thought.

I felt nerves hit my stomach traveling up my body in waves of panic. I took a deep breathe in calming myself as I took the key out of the ignition. Calm down. Breathe, just breathe. I took one last look in the mirror and let out a long dramatic sigh.

Getting out of the car, I ended up shutting my hair in my door. Yes, it really hurt. No, I'm not fine. Getting frustrated I slammed my door, recollecting my tender hair to stop further brain damage. "Don't take it out on the car, damn", a voice called out from the car beside me. I rolled my eyes and flipped them off not caring who they were.

"I wouldn't do that sweetheart. You don't know who you're talking to", the voice taunted. "Good thing, I don't give a damn", I snapped back. As I walked away, I heard the car door shut.

I walked faster hoping to avoid the 'dangerous' stranger. I felt a hand on my shoulder as it jerked me back facing the culprit of my now aching body.

The stranger before me was the exact definition of handsome. Icy blues eyes stared back at me as his jet black hair swayed with the breeze. As we continued the glaring match, I noticed he looked very familiar.

He noticed too.

"Well holy hot shit." The guy said, eyes growing slightly as a smirk glided onto his lips. "You're hotter when you're not in the back of a cop car." My eyes probably jumped out of my head and ran away. I felt embarrassment and shame crawl up my throat. It was Brody.

He chuckled, his eyes were glistening in the morning sun. "I never expected to see you here... or again to be honest." My heart was hammering in my chest.

"Uh, yeah.. Uh me too...", I stammered out. I played with the hem of my shirt as the embarrassment showed itself on my now rosy cheeks.

He took a step closer, backing me up into my car. His lips were getting dangerously close and just before they touched my ear, he said, "Wow you smell... delicious." He took a deep inhale and then a step back. Smirking, he gave me a wink and walked away.

What... just happened?

Nothing could stop the redness from leaving my cheeks, not even the sight of my ex with his new prey. The mere sight of him was enough for me to vomit but Brody shook me to the core. I had never been in such situation like that so I couldn't look past it.

I've had my fair share of boyfriends, yet none of them could entice such a reaction from me especially this long. My face finally cooled down once I got to my third class of the day, Literature.

I kept my head down as I made my way to the back of the class, choosing the seat by the window. Doodling in my notebook for what felt like forever, the teacher asked for the classes attention.

"I'd like to introduce Brody to the class, make him feel welcomed and be sure to mingle with each other", Mr. Rally stated in a monotone voice. Brody didn't seem to mind as he made his way over to the only open seat in the room... The seat directly next to mine.

This is going to be a long school year.
