dean sat on his bed staring at his feet. his dad and him had just gotten into their 4th fight that week. he wanted to call cas but he knew he was busy with his family. it was balthazars birthday after all and he didn't want to disturb them. he rubbed his face with his hands, trying to think of something, anything, to get his mind off of the fight. but no such luck. and so he did the only thing he could think of: call his old friend jo. he hadn't talked with his old friend in over 5 years and he was scared she wouldn't remember him. but
he took the chance and called her. he sat on his bed , the phone to his ear. it rang a few times before someone picks up

"hello?" Jo's voice rang out

"jo?" dean asked

"dean?" she asked, her voice full of surprise

"hey" he said with a smile as he could hear her smile through the phone

"oh my god how are you?! i haven't heard from you in forever!" she exclaimed as he chuckled

"i know. it feels like we haven't talked in ages" he said as his smile grew. the two talked for hours, catching up on the last couple years they had missed with one another. dean told her about cas as she told him about her new boyfriend named ash. they chatted and chatted until about 12:30 am. dean looked at the clock and yawned

"12:30 already? damn" he said as he could hear jo chuckled through the phone

"i guess we missed each other more then we thought" she said as he chuckled as well

"yeah no kidding. let's get together sometime. you and ellen can come down and meet cas and see dad and sam again"

"yes. we need to. mom would love it" she said "and i so want to meet this boyfriend of yours. he sounds amazing"

"he really is. he's so kind and compassionate. he's also really gentle" he said and could hear jo giggle through the phone

"you're like a teenage girl talking about her crush" she said with a giggle as he gasped

"am not!"

"are too!" the two started to laugh.

soon 12:30 rolled around and dean looked at the clock yawning

"jeez have we really been talking for 4 hours?" he asked as jo chuckled

"guess so" she said and dean could hear her yawning

"well we need to get together again. honestly"

"agreed. i'll talk to my mom about it and we can set up a date"

"sounds good. well, sweet dreams jo" he said as he could hear her chuckle

"you as well, dean" she said as they hung up. he sighed, putting his phone down and staring up at the ceiling. he never meant to fall asleep. but of course he did.

*~~*

a few weeks later they had set up a date to get together. both dean and sam were overly excited, not being able to wait to see ellen and jo again. he wanted to take cas but cas was scheduled to go see his grandparents that day so he couldn't go. early in the morning the winchesters got up, getting ready before they left. they met jo and ellen at a buffet in town.

dean and jo made eye contact about 50 feet away from one another before they both broke into a full on sprint, tackling the other in a bear hug just like they used to do when they were kids.

"ohhh i missed you" jo said as dean smiled

"i've missed you too" he said. sam came running over, hugging jo around the waist as she laughed, ruffling his hair

"you've gotten so big, sammy!"she exclaimed a he grinned. they went inside and sat down as they got their food

"so dean, where's this castiel i've heard you talk ever so fondly about?" jo asked as dean blushed slightly

"he couldn't come. he had to go see his grandparents with his family" he said as they nodded. they chatted, spending the entire day together. they went to the town fair that was open and spent a good 3 and a half hours before going for lunch. they then went for a walk around town, going into shops. after dinner they went to go see a movie. they had a grand ol time. but unfortunately for cas he wasn't having as good a time
