"Can we talk?" his father said as dean braced himself for the worst

John and Dean sat in deans room, Dean being too scared to talk

"Dean" his father said as he flinched, looking at him

"Y-yeah?"

"I'm sorry for lashing out" he said "I shouldn't have done that and I really should've have hit you and i feel awful" he said as Dean was shocked. He thought his father would've yelled and screamed. But no. Here he was, John Winchester, apologizing to his son. Dean have a small nod

"I'm sorry too. I should've have kept something like that from you" he said looking down "I was just....scared something would happen"

"What? With you being gay?" John asked as he chuckled "nothing would happen Dean. I don't care that you're gay" he said patting his shoulder "I just care that you're happy. Because that's what your mom would've wanted. And me" he said and smiled at him "I love you buddy. Just remember you can talk to me about anything" he said as Dean nodded. John brought him into a hug which lasted a good 3 minutes before he pulled away "pizza for dinner kid" he said and left.

Dean had quickly texted cas, saying everything was alright so he wouldn't need to worry.

Soon the summer was ending and Dean and Sam had to get ready for the school year. They went to the store to get their supplies with Jo and Ellen. They walked around the store, the three kids laughing and joking around. John and Ellen fell back a bit, having their own conversation.

"Hey dad can I get this?" Dean asked holding up a pocket knife

"What in the world do you need that for?" Ellen asked as Dean shrugged

"No idea. It just seems cool" he said laughing as John chuckled

"Let me think about it" he said as Dean nodded and caught up with Jo and Sam.

"Your boys really look up to you" Ellen said as John gave a small smile

"Yeah. And I made a promise to Mary to keep them safe. So that's what's going to happen. No matter what"
