Chapter 1

My patience was running thin. Michael, I could tell, was tired of all the fighting as well. He sighed then and I knew. This is it, even though I hope only for a while. Michael is the one I'm in love with, yet he can be quite obnoxious at times.

It's like Michael, at the young age of twenty-two, is stuck in his own world. I was idiotic enough to fall into this world he created. For almost ten months now, I've dealt with all his good and bad. Now, I realize maybe I shouldn't have put up with his bullshit at all.

"Leena...," Michael sighed, pushing back his dyed blonde hair. As much as I knew this time would come, that we would not last, I knew we wouldn't make it. I think it all started once he moved in three months. That took the worst spin of it all.

"Is this...what you want? It's just that we need to figure out how to stop fighting and bickering over the little things." I looked down, letting my eyes drop past my bare feet to the carpet that we fought over as well.

When I looked up, Michael had moved over to his dresser, opening it. My throat caught; he was leaving. He has only left one other time, and it was over meeting his parents. This time it was over me not saying yes to his proposal.

Not even an hour ago, he proposed by the park I pass each day coming home from work. Mid dinner, as I tried to keep my food down and not show my nervousness of my bad news that I had been laid off, Michael looked me in the eye and told me he loved me. Sure, we say it casually, but how he looked at me with his green eyes, I knew something was up.

I knew as I smiled back at him, he could tell I was hiding something. It didn't help when he popped the question and I had to tell him about the job lost. With my job gone, we wouldn't have been able to pay for the 'wedding' either. See, this is where the argument of the day came in; he wanted the simple court signing papers. I, on the other hand, wanted the whole deal.

Unfortunately, I was not a princess, and he was not a prince. I am just a late teenager at age nineteen who had left home almost a year and a half ago. Being the black sheep of the family and not fitting into my own parents standards, I left for New York. Many miles away from home, but at least I'm accepted now.

"You told me no, Leena. That is the spark of realizing all this we go through isn't working," Michael huffs, pulling stuff off of hangers from our shared walk-in closet. Our apartment was small enough for us, but I knew it would not last either.

Nothing seems to last in this world, and Michael leaving right now is proof. "So that's that? You're just going to leave now?" I just stood in the middle of our bedroom, near the bed. He was on the other side now, zipping up his suitcase.

"Yes, it's for the best. I'll call my friend Luke and probably crash at his apartment until I can get my own," he looked up towards where I was, in this little black dress he picked out earlier that evening for me to wear. The tears were building now, choking me up until I couldn't look at him any longer.

I could hear the suitcase being dropped on the floor not even three feet away and then arms being wrapped around my body. Michaels embrace usually warmed me; however, I was just feeling cold inside. "Michael?" I croaked out before daring to look at him. "I love you," I whispered through my tears.

"I need to be going now, Leena," he says, kissing the top my head. This goodbye shattered me. I watched as he picked up his suitcase, draping it over his shoulder before pulling his cell phone from his jean pocket. Michael kept his back to me as he just left through the doors like I wasn't here to even begin with.

"Leena, you need to pick up the phone right now. I haven't been able to reach you in days? Did Michael fuc-," I threw my pillow at the answering machine before my best friend could finish her sentence. The light from the windows spilled through; reminding me of another day I was stuck here on this planet called Earth. I just have no motivation to even leave this bed.
