Chapter Two - "Final Episode (Let's Change The Channel)"

Start from the beginning

“Look, just calm down.”  I ordered both of them.  I wasn't going to let their spat ruin our little spot of haven.  “Marcus, I don't see why you're defending an angel – you know what they're like and Saria, you didn't need to rip off her wings.  She wasn't in a fit state to fight any of us.”

“Don't tell me you've fallen into their web too.”  I kept quiet and raised my eyebrows at her.  I wasn't going to say that I wanted to bang one of them or that I had actually saved Imogen.  That was before I knew what she was.  Way before.  I'm certain I wouldn't make the same mistake.

“Saria, they aren't all witches.  I don't see why you've got this hatred of them but-”  Marcus turned on Saria before she growled at him.

“You don't see why?  Because they're back stabbing bitches who only care about themselves!  They think they're so innocent and can't do anything wrong but they do.  Hell!  Half of them sin when they come down to Earth and still act like their the epitome of all perfectness!”  She snarled at Marcus, throwing her hands in the air.  I got the feeling her hate ran deep, to a more personal level.  We'd all had our share of angels that made us hate them but she had one that ran much deeper.  “You don't have to be a sinner to be evil.”

“Do you know what you've caused us?!”  Marcus shrieked in anger, his eyes piercing into Saria.  He was physically shaking too – and I could see that his wings were going to break out of his back.  That was going to be painful if he couldn't control himself.

See the thing is... we don't gain our wings like angels do.  They're given them at birth.  The only way for a demon to get wings is to rip them off an angel as they automatically claim themselves as ours (somehow they're 'alive', don't ask, it's complicated).  It takes a lot of angels' wings to get us demons a full set but there are a few ways to gain the wings.  The purer the angel, the more of the wings you grow.  If you drink an angel's blood, it's said that you can grow a full set of wings... there's a few ways.  They're all pretty gruesome though.  I'd killed my fair share and grew my wings, Marcus had done the same.  Saria.... Well... she had grown a few feathers and some bone but her wings had suddenly appeared the day after she'd torn of Imogen's.  That meant only one thing: Imogen was as pure as you could get.

“Oh... I don't know... one less angel to kill?”  Saria snorted before sitting back down, taking out a cigarette.  She'd go through three packs in a day – I don't even know how she managed to do that or afford to buy them, it's not like we were millionaires.

“You're an idiot.  You damned an angel to Earth and she's as pure as they can get.”  I could see that Marcus was trying to hint at something.  Even, I didn't even know what he was hinting at.

“Do you think I care about her?”  Saria asked in disbelief.  “Stupid bitch was touching my Balt.”  She muttered the last part under her breath and I resisted the urge to groan.  Saria had this “thing” for me and she was sure I liked her back.  I didn't.  She was a good friend and good fighter -yes I'll admit that - but she was annoying and too blood thirsty for my liking.  I'd even kissed and almost humped girls in front of her... unfortunately it didn't affect her.  In fact, it had spurred her on even more!

“You'd better start caring, Saria.  I'm sick of your attitude.”  Whoa.  Marcus was really angry – he'd never really told us off like children unless we were in serious trouble.  Normally he'd just point out where we'd screwed up and that was it.  “Because of you, we have to find her and make sure she doesn't fall into the hands of Dimitri's crew.  If the angels she was with find out you tore her wings off... let me put it this way.  We're basically moving targets for them.”
