10th String - This Is Why I Hate Social Gatherings

"We all have to be a kid some time in our lives."

"Yes, but you're a kid all the time."

"It's fun and besides--"

"I'm not okay so both of you just shut up!" I interrupted their squabble.

It was senseless and they were making my head hurt even more.

"Jesse, quit making her head hurt." Clark reprimanded.

I groaned. This was the beginning of another argument and I wasn't up for that so I ungracefully reached over between them and turned the volume of the car's stereo on the highest.

Clark immediately turned it off.

He held a look of shock as he stared at me, "Are you mental? You could have made me deaf!"

I shrugged, "Yeah, but I didn't. Besides, since I was going deaf over your arguing, I wanted to take the both of you down with me."

Jesse frowned at me, "You're not very nice."

"Suck it up." Clark and I told him at the same time.

I think I have firmly established that I am indeed not the nicest person on the planet. It wasn't something I was trying to hide.

Jesse's frown deepened, "I forgot you two are best friends." he said solemnly.

I decided to tune them out and just focus on the scenery. I was never really the one to appreciate the beauty of nature but I sure did enjoy daydreaming. That's what I mostly find myself doing.

Clark dropped Jesse off at a high-class looking hotel then he drove us off to the studio.

I transferred to the passenger seat since it was where I always preferred sitting in. I never really liked the backseat. I don't know why though.

A minute of silence passed but I didn't mind. Awkward silences haven't been happening lately and I was grateful for it. Things were back to the way they were. Well, almost. The only difference now was that I am in love with Clark and I couldn't help but to hope for something more every time I see him.

"So," Clark began, breaking the comfortable silence that had engulfed us. I stared at him to let him know that I was listening. He continued, "What put a damper on your mood? I know it couldn't have been the party because you were already looking forward to the food."

I puffed out a cheek. Why did he have to be so observant?

I slumped in my seat and crossed my arms, "I bumped into the jerk that had pissed off at the cinema." I told him, explaining to him briefly about the dickheads who had cut in the line and almost tore me away from my beloved ticket, "Oh and he hit on me and practically forced me to go on a date with him." I finished off, feeling the irritation once again.

I still couldn't believe I actually said yes.

"He forced you?" Clark questioned, his eyebrows furrowing as he made a left-turn.

I pursed my lips, "Well, not exactly 'forced'...More like he had tricked me into going out with him." I answered vaguely, not detailing that I had acted before thinking again.

"How did he trick you?"

"It doesn't matter!" I said immediately, "The important thing right now is that I'm hungry and I need to be fed before things get nasty." I muttered, changing the subject.

But no. Clark just had to be grumpy and stay on topic. Stubborn prick.

"I know when you're hungry and I still have a few minutes until that happens so stop changing the subject." he stated firmly.
