Slowly crushing my neck I struggled to breathe, my futile attempt to revenge for Jack who is now dead laying under my feet I made even more futile attempts to try and tear away from this monster’s grasp. I can no longer tell am I angry or scared. “I-I’m going to kill you!” The monster before me stares at me with his blood thirsty crimson eyes,
Hot tears rolled down my face, why am I crying?! Why am I showing this monster that I’m weak!?
“Do you want to kill me?” His flat monotone asks me as he kept a firm grip around my neck, “I’ll kill every single one of you! I’ll wipe you off the face of this earth!” With my free hand I punched him in the face, yet he doesn’t flinch one bit but only stare at me with blank bloodthirsty eyes. “You have a nice expression. However you lack strength, humans all lack strength. What can you achieve? With a pathetic and fragile body of yours?” “Don’t you dare say anything more about my race! Don’t you dare drag us down as if we’re lower than you!”
Throwing me onto the ground I landed next to Jack’s body, his fresh wet blood stained my hands. “The difference between me and you; is a matter of immortality. A lifespan of a human is equal to me blinking, and it is this very difference that makes you weak.”
Suddenly gun shots was fired behind me, my eyes widen to see the monster had bullet holes through his chest area and right through the middle of his skull he falls on his back creating a loud thud. “Vincent! Are you ok?” My dad ran towards me as I could tear my eyes off the vampire. Is he really dead?
“It looks like this gun hasn’t rusted after all. Come, we have to leave this city before it’s too late!” Dragging my arm I tried to grab onto Jack’s cold body, “Wait, dad! Let me - Let me take Jack with me” Trying to protest my dad drags me further away “The vampires will smell fresh blood! It’s join to be dangerous carrying a body! He’s already dead! It’ll be a hinderance!” - “DAD! I SAID LET ME TAKE JACK’S BODY!”
My jaw suddenly feels painful, friction burnt my cheeks. “How do you think how I will feel when I tell Bruce and Helen that their son is dead!? Now stop being stubborn and run!” Dragging me across with my feet running my gaze haven’t left Jack’s body. His blonde hair dyed in his own blood - is it my fault? If I didn’t skip school would we have had a different ending?
Would I be free from this crushing weight of guilt?
Boarding the emergency underground train that will lead us to the City of Decimus, everyone tried to crush and squeeze themselves into the smallest amount of space in hope that they can escape successfully and live. I look around to see people shaking in fear wanting the train to hurry up and move. “Vincent!” My eyes widen as I met the gaze of Helen and Bruce who was searching through the carriage. Rushing to me my dad and my mum both frowned at each other - “Son, I’ll explain” Volunteering Bruce and Helen looked around us for Jack, the smiles on their faces showed that they at least had a brink of hope in them. “Where is Jack? Didn’t you two go to school together?” Helen looks at me but I couldn’t look at her in the eyes, nor can my parents.
“Hm?” Helen urged as Bruce asked my dad - “Helen, Bruce” Pausing in mid way his voice already shows that there is bad news - “J-Jack is on this train right? He’s just gone to find us right?” - “Jack was caught by a vampire. He’s dead.”
Gasping out loud Helen grabs onto my hand, “Vincent you’re just playing a joke right?! Tell me where Jack is! It’s not funny!” My lips quivered, as tears slipped out my mother grabbed onto my shoulder. “Jack is dead. We got caught by a vampire” Grabbing onto my shoulder Helen shook my looking at me right through my eyes “You’re lying! If you was caught why are you still alive!? Why is everyone else in the school alive?! The children were evacuated first!” “We skipped class. I’m s-“ Before I could finish Helen slaps me across the face and protectively my mother shoves her back into Bruce’s arms. “You devil child! You killed my son! Jack - Jack he would never skip if it wasn’t because of you! YOU DEVIL CHILD!” Breaking down in tears Bruce glares at me as he comforts his wife. “From now on we owe you nothing. We owe you nothing at all” Bruce growls before moving away from us as Helen’s sorrowful cries kept circling inside my mind, and unconsciously I grabbed my dad’s sleeve.
