I sat by the vent because that's where the heat was coming from. Granted it was in the middle of the summer and it also so happen to be ninety degrees outside. Since I can't go outside and I'm always cold, I sit by the vent because it's the only warmth I can get. In about ten minutes my mom will come up the stairs of the dark house and open my door and give me that big cheery smile that she always does and clasp her hands together. I couldn't help but roll my eyes to the ugly duffel bag and suitcase packed with a about a month of items that she thinks I will need. My room is pretty much pitch black along with the rest of the houses. The sunlight tries to penetrate through my blinds, all you can see is the light on the other side. I like to avoid windows because it lessens my chances of burns. Being allergic to the sun or even light is pretty rare. Only like 1 in 2 billion people have it, my mom says that means I'm special. Yep, being a 'freak' is totally special or at least that's what everyone calls me, my kind.  It's not like I look like a complete freak, I have white skin. Paper white skin, no freckles or anything. I have dull eyes that can't decide if they want to be dishwater grey or blue. I also have stick straight dirty blonde hair that barely reaches my shoulders. I don't look that freaky. But going to this camp, Camp Sundown is suppose to be for my kind. Not like I want to meet my kind, I don't want to meet anyone nor do I want to socialize. This camp says it's  almost like every other camp but it have different activities that are at night instead of the day time. I cringed at the thought and huddled next to vent more. I heard my mom walking up the stairs, I closed my eyes as the door creaked open.

"El! Wake up it's time to go!" I could hear the smile in her voice

I knew she cared for me a lot, but I couldn't help but think what she would do when I was gone. First thing was she probably open all the windows.

"I'm tired." I said not opening my eyes

She signed, "You can sleep in the car on the way there."

The camp was about 6 hours away, and I had to get there before 7:30. We usually would leave for something at night, but since it was so far away we had to leave during the day. Sunlight I shuttered.

It was always a process to get me ready to go outside in sunlight. First I wore a huge baggy navy blue sweater and long black pants, sneakers with long socks, gloves, a dumb scarf to cover my neck and face ,a hat to cover my head/forehead/ears, big sunglasses and finally I had to take an umbrella. What could I say? The sun was my arch enemy. Stepping out of the house was nerve wrecking, anything could happen. The sun was shining brightly letting out it's warmth and its deathly rays. Gotta hate the sun.

"Okay I'm going to go to the car first, okay? I call you over when it's ready!" My mom quickly ran to the car.

I probably looked like a freak, because cars that were driving by stopped to stare at me. We live in a quiet neighborhood seeing something like me is pretty rare.  My neighbors probably stood looking out their windows and thinking, Look the freak came out!

"Alright El, let's go!" My mom's voice shattered my day dreaming.

I took a quick deep breath, and stepped into the sunlight.
