He looked down. Annabeth's body was sprawled across his lap. He tucked a piece of hair behind her ear. He face looked so peaceful. Almost as if she were sleeping. If only he'd gotten there sooner. If only he'd fought harder. If only...
A lone tear rolled down his cheek. He couldn't believe this. Why? Why did the fates have it in for him? He'd found his soulmate only to have her ripped away from him in the blink of an eye.
He kept staring at her body. Maybe if he looked long enough she would move. She would show some sign of life. She would look up at him and smile. Everything would be alright.
The blood continued to pool around him. It seeped into jeans as he knelt there, holding her one last time.
Nothing would ever compare to the pain he felt. No physical injury could ever equal it. His heart had been broken. Shattered. Destroyed. Annabeth was gone and she wasn't coming back. Death had stolen her. He didn't even get a chance to tell her how much he loved her. He didn't get to say goodbye.
He bent down to her and pressed one final kiss to her lips. They were still warm. He could still smell her lemon scent.
He clung on to one last hope. They would meet again. Somehow. She would make it to Elysium. She deserved it. She was a hero through and through. And one day when he had drawn his last breath they would be together once more.
A/N: I had this idea a while ago but I didn't have time to write. It's been bugging me so here it is.
