Second Chance [Nineteen]

“Have you guys tried looking for the thing? Or at least called someone who can?” I said as I began walking out the apartment. The smell of the dead hamster combined with the air freshener was a bit overwhelming.

“We have tried looking for it, but have had no luck finding it. We called an exterminator to come in this week to fix it. It still smells bad.” Irvin scrunched up his nose and covered it. “Go back to the apartment, I’ll be there soon.” I quickly nodded  and took off running back to the apartment. I heard Irvin laugh and then the sound of a door closing, I smiled not being able to help it as I felt the warm feeling spread through me again.

It’s about time you have a better life with people you actually trust, I heard Kat’s voice speak up in my head. Don’t expect these sappy moments from me often, but I’m happy things are better now, especially with you.

“And here I thought you were dead,” I whispered to myself.

Wouldn’t you wish that?, she laughed. The day you croak will be the day I do too.

“Yeah whatever,” she laughed once more as I walked into the apartment.

“Dawn! Come here,” Riley pulled me into my bedroom and closed it behind him. “When are you going to ask Henry?”

“Riley! What did you say about keeping it on the down low?” I hissed and flicked his nose.

“Ow! That hurt!” He pushed me then added, “I’m not a dog.” I rolled my eyes at him.

“I’ll ask him soon, don’t worry about it,” I sighed as I walked around Riley towards the door.

“I’m not going to lie, I’m scared.” Riley whispered.

“You aren’t the one asking him anything. I’m the one doing that. I can handle my own brother,” I laughed as I opened the door and walked out of the room. I heard Riley groan from behind me.

“What were you guys doing in there?” I heard Henry’s voice come down the hall. I turned around and saw Riley’s horror stricken face. I giggled, but tried to cover when I heard Henry walking up to us. “Well?” He said as he stood in front of us.

“Riley wanted to borrow some nail polish, but didn’t know what color he wanted.” I made up, trying to control myself.

“Did you get what you were looking for, Ry?” my brother smirked, believing me. I couldn’t help but giggle then.

“No, she didn’t have a color I wanted,” Riley straighten out and grinned at my bother. Henry laughed shaking his head.

“Well, I’ll leave you girls to play while I go get some food in me,” he laughed. I notice Riley was about to say something, but I quickly covered his mouth with my hand and shook my head, warning him not to say anything He just rolled his eyes. I turned and stared after my brother until I saw him go into the kitchen with Angelo. Suddenly, I left something warm and wet slide across my palm. I turned and noticed the evil glint in Riley’s eyes. I then realized that he was licking my hand.

“Eww! Riley, what the hell?” I cried out. I pulled my hand away from his mouth and cleaned on his shirt. “What was that for?”

“I couldn’t help myself. I just had to do it.” Riley laughed. I groaned and pushed him out if the way. I walked into my bathroom and washed my hands, until I was satisfied that I didn’t have any of Riley’s germs on me anymore.
