Just Go With It (Steve + reader)

Convenient Rescuer

   The man in a ball cap and glasses leans against the wall, a cellphone to his ear. He mutters something unintelligible.

   It's not an uncommon sight, but you're almost certain you've seen him somewhere, or at least someone similarly dressed.

   He's too well dressed to be a mugger, except for that slightly too long hair, but that doesn't stop you from switching your bag to the other arm.

You sprint toward the bus stop, letting your sudden fear rule your decisions.

When you look back, the man is gone.

   Were you imagining things?

The ball caped man boards after you and takes a seat in the back of the bus.

   Maybe not.

Your heart starts a cadence.

   There's no where to run. If I go home he'll know where I live!

Now you're panicking.

The bus reaches the next stop and when several others get off, you do too, even though its several miles from your stop.

Wanting to give yourself distance, you sprint down the street, dodging pedestrians until you feel safely out of reach. When you glance back, the man is nowhere in sight.

   With the possible danger averted, you fall into a casual stride and run head long into the ballcap man! He grabs your shoulders.

   Fear seizes you and you swing wildly "Let go of me!"

   "Y/N, it's me!" The man removes his glasses, and you realize that it's not your stalker.

   "S-steve! Where did you come from?"

His golden brows furrow "What's going on? Are you okay?"

There's some difficulty catching your breath "I was - there's ... a man " you point behind into the crowd  " back there."

"You know him?"

"Never seen him before. Thought he was a mugger."

Steve is still holding you, but he doesn't seem to realize it.

"I have to go" you wriggle out of his arms "Thanks for stopping me!"

"Wait a minute" Steve protests "At least let me make sure you get home safe."

"I was on my way to lunch" you admit.

"So was I" he gives you that shy grin "Join me?"

You hesitate.

    For real? He wants my company?

   "Uh, sure."
