The man pulled away from his friend, shooting him a judgmental look.
"Really Akio?" the man asked, pulling the charm on his friend's necklace. "Don't tell me you believe in that Dragon Ghoul junk."
Akio pulled away, clutching the charm in his fist protectively. "Well- I..." he stammered. "Not really, I just thought, you know, better safe than sorry, eh?" he tried, smiling weakly.
The man snorted, roughly letting go of the chain. "Sissy," he growled as he stalked away, hands in his pockets, save for one last backwards wave.
Last.
Last hug.
Last argument.
Last wave.
I smiled wider, letting hunger overtake me. My eyes turned from white and brown to black and red, my veins pulsing with darkness, surging with adrenaline.
Last mistake.
By the time people found the man's body the next morning, it was too late.
