23| Christmas at the Potters

When James Potter was twelve years old, he told his parents of his friend at school, Sirius Black, who didn't have anywhere to stay for Christmas, and they gladly excepted him.

When Sirius Black was asked what he wanted to eat for dinner, he had no idea, as he never got the choice at home, and didn't have enough to eat either.

When Sirius Black had a nightmare on the couch in the living room, Mrs. Potter comforted him, and he joked that that was the reason James was so spoiled, and it broke her heart, because all she'd done was give him an extra blanket and warm milk.

When Sirius Black and James Potter came down for breakfast, Mrs Potter was mixing a bowl of pancake batter and asked the boys to set the table.  While reaching for the forks, Sirius knocked over the bowl, breaking it into a thousand pieces, and began to cry, when she asked why, he told her he was waiting for his punishment.  She just comforted him and fixed the bowl with a wave of her wand and began a new batch.

Mrs. Potter made sure Sirius spent every break he could with them.

When Sirius Black graduated from Hogwarts his actual family wasn't there, but his real family was. His friends, his teachers, and most of all the Potter's, who clapped just as loudly for Sirius as they did James.
