When I was about to take off my shoes on the rooftop,
I found someone already there before me---A boy with slicked back hair
Against myself, I called out to him: “Hey, don't do it.”

“Today was the day.” I thought to myself, staring at this poor boy before me. “Until someone just had to beat me here.”

His blue eyes were teared up and he looked depressed. His feet at the edge of the rooftop I hoped to jump from. I didn't know why he was here in the first place, but in my mind I scolded myself for being so stupid and shouting out to him.

The words just kinda slipped out of my mouth.
It didn't matter to me either way.
It just didn't sit right with me that someone got there ahead of me.

But why did I call out to him? The words just slipped out and it didn't matter to me if he jumped or not. It was his own life. He could do with it whatever he wanted. Just like how I wanted to before he came along. Right then, he opened his dry lips to tell me his story in a thick raspy German accent, to which I listened to him with all of my attention.

The boy with blonde hair told me his story---
The kind that one has probably heard before.
“I thought we were meant for each other. I just wanted him to like me back.”

The boy’s voice cracked between each word he struggled to say. He was obviously hurt about this love ordeal. To the end of his story his tears that threatened to escape before finally came pouring out and wetting his fancy uniform.

Of course, I couldn't believe it.

Are you kidding me? The nerve you have for getting here before me for such a tame reason!
You're upset because you can't get what you want?
You're lucky enough that you've never had anything taken from you!

I blew up at him for his own reasons. How could he come here all sad and depressed over that? Everyone has to go through it once or twice and he's lucky enough to not have anything taken from him!

And to my own surprise, he suddenly cracked a small smile. Wiping his blue eyes, he looked at me with a more cheerful expression.

“I feel better now that I talked about it.”
The boy with blonde hair said and disappeared.

Stepping away from the roof's edge and putting his boots back on, the boy who was once ready to take his life away left the rooftop. It really made me chuckle at my own luck. Who knew that I would be talking someone out of something I wanted to do? Well it wouldn't be right if I jumped off today, so I might as well go home and do it tomorrow...
