"His being is something that can't be explained by modern science, we ourselves don't even know how he made him. This isn't something you can just look up in a chemistry book or a biology book, this is a pure ingenious discovery by our top scientist here at Wellbrook, Steele Grant." My college professor, Mr.Henry, announced to the class. An almost superhuman specimen was created in a lab at Wellbrook and I'm just hearing about this now? I silently raised my hand, feeling slightly nervous since hardly anyone ever asks questions in this class.
"Mr.Henry, how come none of us have ever heard about this until now? I mean, wouldn't this be all over the news if it was such a great achievement?" I asked, feeling slightly more confident since I managed to get the question out without stuttering.
"Well, Miss Rose, that's because-"
"It's bullshit!" Was yelled from the back, startling me just the slightest.
"Will you be quiet back there?" Mr.Henry asked, frustrated. "As I was saying, it's because it has yet to be proven real." My heart sunk slightly, not even wanting to hear the story of this mystery creation anymore. It would just be useless knowledge that would trip me up and confuse me on tests.
"Then why are we learning about it?" I let out a soft sigh and placed my hands comfortably on my small little table that was connected to the chair. "Doesn't it seem kind of...useless?"
"We aren't learning about it, we are learning about him. And the knowledge I give to you will not be useless. I hope that it inspires you, all of you." He spoke, looking across the classroom and eventually landing his eyes back onto mine. "I wouldn't be telling this story if it didn't have some purpose."
I leaned back in my chair and felt a slight tap on my shoulder, turning around to see a smiling Luke sitting behind me. "This blows." He whispered, a cool breeze of his minty fresh breath blew past my nose.
"It's not that bad, there's only 15 minutes of class left so it shouldn't be that long of a story that it has to continue until next class." I pulled my pony tale tighter on my head, feeling the band snap. "Crap, this was the only hair tie I had." A small frown grew on my face.
"Here you go, I'm sick of holding this anyways." Luke pulled a black hair tie off of his wrist and placed it into my palm. A small giggle started to form and I hushed myself before it became much more of a laugh.
"Why on earth do you have this?" I pulled my hair back up onto my head and leaned back against my seat again.
"Ashton gave it to me to hold for a minute and then he took off for class and completely forgot to take it back. He should've just kept it in his pocket because now I had to give it away, obviously." Luke stifled a laugh as well before looking back down at Mr.Henry who had been droning on about the experimental faux human.
I looked back down also, realizing why Luke has began to pay attention. Mr.Henry had made an entire PowerPoint presentation on this subject and everyone else had been writing notes down the whole time, I'm guessing he probably said there was going to be a quiz on this. "We'll talk later." I mouthed, seeing a small smile grow on his lips before nodding his head in approval.
"They say that he basically lives at the Wellbrook lab, but somebody has yet to find proof of his existence. How do I know he's real, you may ask. I don't. I don't know if he's real but I chose to believe, class. " He made gestures with his hands and it wasn't hard to tell that he loves talking about this...this...? What do I even call this.
"They called it Project Hood," there it is. "This was the start of a new era in the history of science! The start of bringing even more intelligent and intellectual beings into our presence here on earth. The start of a much more compatible breed of human, ones with extensive knowledge and the universe around it. The start of-"
