"Thank you." Josh said.
"I suggest you let her dive home, just in case. Otherwise you're good to go. We'll take care of your rental equipment." He smiled. Josh shook his hand, and we were on our way back to the car. I sat in the drivers seat. For a second, I didn't want to move.
"Josh... I'm very troubled by this."
"Me too. This is new territory." He said, looking at the dashboard and bouncing his knee.
"They messed with you." I sighed.
"I'm gonna call Tyler." Josh pulled out his phone and dialed.
||JOSH POV||
"Hey jishwa!! How's your date?" Tyler said excitedly into the phone.
"Something serious happened Tyjo." I said with a stern tone.
"What's up?"
"Kyndall got a message from that number again. They were here. I got hurt." I said, sparing the details.
Tyler was silent.
"They what?" He sounded fired up, angry.
"I'm a little banged up."
"Hurry back. This is a different ball game now." Tyler said, sternly and firm.
"We've come to play." I added.
"Damn right, be safe." Tyler said.
"Bye."
"What did he say?" Kyndall asked.
"Tyler's pissed, we're gonna get this over with. I'm sick of it." I shook my head.
"Me too. You had nothing to do with this."
Kyndall sort of had a driving face. She looked very focused and deep in thought. She was very thorough when she looking around during turns, and rarely took her eyes off the road. I wondered if that was an anxiety thing.
"I feel responsible for this." She blurted as we were rounding a curve on the mountain road.
"What? No," I completely rejected that statement.
"I can't help but think this is my fault... What if-"
"Kyndall, stop it. It's over, done. You couldn't have changed anything," I sounded a little mean, but that was what I had to do to get it across to her. She just nodded a little, as if it were to herself.
She drove a little too fast to get back to the hotel.
--
"How bad is it?" Tyler practically jumped out of his chair to me. In seconds he was in my face, tilting my head around and examining my scratches and bruises.
"I'm fine ty," I jerked my head away slightly.
"Your lip," he almost touched it in concern.
"Tyler, I'm okay chill out," I held up my hand to push him back a little.
"Okay, okay, I'm sorry. What do you know?" He asked. He let me sit down in the chair. Kyndall stood, arms crossed and deep in thought. She was over thinking everything, I knew that look.
"They were wearing that damn green hoodie." Kyndall said, chewing on her nails as she nervously bounced her foot.
"I think we should get the police involved," Jenna said.
"No." Kyndall instantly retorted.
"Why not?" Jenna asked.
"I just... That's too much. I don't-"
"Kyndall stop it, this is serious." Tyler sounded upset. I watched Kyndall look down at her phone. We all knew who it was.
"What did they say?" Tyler asked.
"They said, follow my instructions, you're going on another walk or Jenna is next." Her voice was so shaky.
"That's it! I'm done!" Tyler yelled. He looked like he was going to punch a wall. He sunk his fist into the bed and let out a yell.
"Tyler! I have an idea!" I blurted, trying to get him to calm down.
"What?" Kyndall asked.
"Tyler, you're a tiny guy. Can you fit into kyndalls clothes?" I asked. I watched everyone's faces slowly shift expressions when they understood what I was saying.
"No... I don't want you to be in danger." Kyndall shook her head.
"We could all be close by, well follow you." Jenna said. Tyler and Kyndall switched jackets when Tyler put his hood on and turned around, I could barely tell a difference. Well, besides his chicken legs. Jenna threw on a heavy coat.
"You have to go now, switch phones." Kyndall handed Tyler her phone and they switched.
"I'll tell you guys when it's safe to follow. I hope this works. We'll see what happens." Tyler nodded.
"Be safe ty," I said just as he slipped out of the room.
||TYLER POV||
My blood was boiling. When Josh came up with a plan, I instantly said yes. As I left the hotel lobby, I told them to follow, sending them the directions I was given.
I kept my head down and followed the directions.
A park.
I hadn't seen any grass in Santa Fe until then. I was at a poorly lit park that had a lot of statues and modern art scattered around.
Unknown number: keep walking
I steadily stepped forward.
Jenna: I see you babe, I love you. We're all here.
Unknown number: stop, behind the statue.
I told them what was happening as I stepped around to the back of the statue.
Josh: put me on the phone to I can hear you.
I did just that.
"I have good news." The voice came from behind me. I almost turned around, then remembered that I wasn't Kyndall. I remained silent.
"You're finally going to get to see me! The only problem is, I doubt you'll ever want to be seen again after the major shit I've come up with about you." It was a woman, I could tell by the voice.
"Come on honey, talk to me... Tyler."
My heart dropped. I turned around and slipped off the hood of the jacket. I had never seen this woman before.
"Nice try. Nothing gets past me."
