ATTACKED: part 24

Start from the beginning

I hopped up and heard Josh crunching in the snow as he wobbled over next to me.

"Ready?" I asked.

"Yep!" He hopped in front of me and swished past before I could start going.

"Hey!" I yelled, speeding down the slope vertically to catch up to his speed. It was a good thing I did, because the slope had a huge flat spot coming up. When we hit it, Josh struggled to gain speed as he had to hop and wobble his way across, while I zoomed past and stuck my tongue out at him.

"No fair!" He finally caught an incline and started to glide again. I let him catch up with me, and we slid around in sync.  I caught a bump and landed a small jump in the slope, making Josh cheer and move closer to me. We grabbed hands and slowed down a little bit.

He let go and glided to the opposite side of the slope, spinning in slow circles.

I wasn't prepared.

They wore the same green jacket, zipping past Josh in an instant and sending him to the snow. I couldn't process what was happening fast enough to catch the perpetrator. Instead I watched as Josh started rolling down the incline as a fast pace. I was screaming.

Completely vertical, I sped after him, yelling his name as he tumbled. I kept thinking about Kimberly as he rolled, how he leg split and how she tumbled like a rag doll. I could already feel the tears burning my eyes.

He was starting to slow down. I watched as he skid his board into the snow and used his arms to stop himself.

"Josh!" I yelled, skidding to a stop and I clipping my feet to stumble towards him.

"Josh! Oh my god are you okay!" I took his board off of his feet and kneeled next go him, frantically trying to unzip his jacket and check him for broken ribs.

"Kyndall, Kyndall I'm fine." He pushed my hand away. He had a scrape on his forehead from patches of ice, and a busted lip.

"Oh my god." I slipped off my gloves and held his face gently.

"Does anything hurt, did you break anything, are you oka-"

"Kyndall, you're breathing..." He said. I realized I was breathing heavily and quickly, panicking.

"Kyndall calm down."

All I could think about was Kimberly. That could've been Josh. I let go of him and dug my bare hands into the ice cold snow, hyperventilating. I saw spots in my vision, thinking back about Kimberlys accident.

"Kyndall... Look at me. I'm okay." Out of the corner of my eye, I saw him sit up and reach for me.

"Josh, I cant, Kimberly..." I trailed off, starting to cry. My tears melted the snow when they hit it.

"Hey, agh-" he grunted when he tried to reach for me and held his hip. He made it over to me and wrapped his arms around me. I could feel the cold snow melting on my clothes as he held me. I already started to calm down.

He started to sing anathema in my ear quietly. I felt like k was sinking into his hold.

"Are you okay now?" He asked, pulling my hair back out of my face.

"Are you?"

"Yeah, stay close." He looked me in the eyes and smiled weakly. We crawled to our board and strapped back in. He slowly made his way down.

I made him go to the infirmary, even though he didn't want to. They made him take off his shirt so they could examine his hip and ribs.

"No broken bones, only some bruises and that good little scrape. You made it out lucky mr. Dun." The EMT said, writing some stuff down on a note pad. I let out a relieved sigh.
