9th String - It's Illegal to Kill

Halfway through my sandwich, the school's P.A system's bell sounded throughout the cafeteria, signaling an announcement.

"Jade Evelyn Hart, please report to the dean's office immediately." the P.A attendant said and a groan escaped from my lips.

"What now?" I asked myself as I stood up. I was well aware that a hundred pair of eyes were on me when I walked out of the cafeteria.

They always announce it when the dean wants to see someone. It was very embarrassing, not that I get called a lot, but I also didn't find it amusing when students whisper about what you could have done to get called to the dean's office.

This is only the second time I've been called and the first time was for a silly reason so I wasn't really worried. No one gets in serious trouble here because they always find a way to cover it up. It is a well-known school after all.

When I came face-to-face with the dean's office, I knocked on the door, letting the dean know I was here. The first time I was here, I just entered without knocking and it got me in trouble. I had to clean the school auditorium by myself.

Dean Roberts let me in at once and I was surprised to see the familiar mop of brown hair of a very annoying creature sitting on the chair in front of the dean's desk.

"Jade," Dean Roberts greeted, "Have a seat please." he told me, gesturing to the other leather seat in front of him.

I did as he said obediently. Not bothering to question him.

"This is Jesse Reed. A good friend of mine." he explained while gesturing to the said person.

"Good friend of yours?" I repeated, not quite believing it. I was expecting Dean Roberts to say that Jesse was my friend and not the other way around. I mean, Jesse lives in America. How could they have been friends? And besides, Dean Roberts is normal and Jesse is just...not.

Dean Roberts nodded, "And he seems to be a good friend of yours as well." he continued.

I turned my eyes over to Jesse who winked at me. I scowled at him.

"Is that all? Is that why my lunch was interrupted?" I asked in a sharp tone, angry at Jesse for having to disrupt my meal time. Meal time was me time, and it is very important that I get my me time.

"Manners Jade." Jesse reprimanded in a sing-song voice, smiling at me.

I scoffed, "You of all people have to remind me?"

"I have manners. As a matter of fact, I'm the most well-mannered person you've ever met." he said confidently.

"No you're not. You're the most egotisti--"

"Jesse means to excuse you for the rest of the day." Dean Roberts interjected at once, sending me a warning look. I had completely forgotten that he was in here.

My eyebrows furrowed as my eyes went from Dean Roberts to Jesse.

"No way." I answered defiantly.

"Well, it wasn't really a question." Jesse leaned forward in his seat as he spoke, "You have no choice." he said with an evil smile.

I frowned at him, "You're mental."

"I'm giving you an acceptable excuse to skip school, and you're complaining?" he argued further.

I snapped my head to Dean Roberts's direction, "Are you really supporting this Dean Roberts? I know he's a good friend of yours but he obviously has mental problems."

Dean Roberts relaxed in his plush office chair as he wore an amused smile, "Jesse's reason is excusable."

"How is it excusable?" I couldn't believe what was going on.
