Happy Birthday, Nan

Another year has passed

Another birthday has come

Two and a half years since you left us

But today would of been the "one"

The birthday we all thought you would see

The one my dad, your son, told you that you would

The one day all your family would of been piling in your house

Bringing lots of cards and gifts for our special bright shining light

Today would of been your 90th birthday

I wish you were still here

But today I don't want to be sad

Today I want to spread the cheer

I want to remember your 90 years of life

And think back to that day in 1926 when you were given life

You were the first born child of the best parents

you said you were glad to had

Dear sweet Annie born August 20th, 1926

You went on to have 8 more siblings and helped your mother, you did

You gave up school at 14 to help your mother dearest

A selfless act even then was a sign of what was to come

Because your whole entire life you helped anyone you could

You helped your mum bring up those children while your father went to work

What a good kind daughter you were Nan, but then I'm not surprised

You went on to be the best wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother

Any of us could of wished to have

The selfless act continued, you married your first and only love

Your very first boyfriend you wed then you had your first son, my dad

Oh how you loved him your first born son you adored

Then you went on to have 2 more boys and showered them with love

But then a tiny baby girl not been looked after how she should

You, my dear selfless Nan, took that baby in and made her your own

And loved her as if she came from your own tummy

You now had your 4 children and you brought them up just fine

And then your grandchildren started appearing, many were to come

9 in total and how you loved us so

You saw your first born son's 5 children every single day

And you gave us so much of your heart and soul and showered us with your love

We were never away from your home, you fed us and told us tales

How I loved sitting there taking it all in

You gave so much of yourself to everyone and helped anyone you could

But never once did you ask for anything from anyone

You were born this day 90 years ago and oh boy I'm glad you were

because if I'd never have met you I wouldn't be who I am today, you truly enriched my life

You were the most beautiful soul I'd ever met and I know that you still are

You achieved so much whilst on this earth

You made everyone around you feel safe and warm and loved and happy

Yes, a light did go out when you left us

But we have to try and keep that light shining!

So in memory of Dear Annie, my Nan, my shining light

"happy birthday" today my precious one, I am with you in heart and mind

Sending hugs and kisses so make sure you "catch" them please

Just know that you areas loved today as you have ever been

None of us will ever stop loving you, you're on our minds every day

So wherever you are, Nan, please enjoy your day

All your 6 great grand children are thinking of you today

Including the curly-haired cheeky baby you never got to see

Alas he was born 9 months after you passed

Unbeknownst to anyone including you or his mum

he was quietly growing inside her tummy as you were fading away

But no matter my dear Nan, I'm sure you see that boy

You would of been proud as punch of him for sure

Another child for you to coddle and spoil and adore

He hears about his granny Annie every single day

And kisses your photo, he will always know who you are

And as with your other great grandchildren, you will never be forgotten

Your memory will live on, our love for you will never die

So anyway it's time to go but happy birthday again dear Nan

I hope you are having your own celebration with all your family

somewhere up there in the sky

You will be as loved there as you are here!

Until we meet again my precious much loved Gem of a Nan

You keep yourself busy, do what you did best

Spread your love and warmth and joy

Bust also have a rest!

I will love you forever, Nan, of that there is no doubt

Until we meet again and you greet me and wrap me in your arms
