Tobin POV

"It's been a pleasure San Francisco, and I hope you invite us back!" I said before we walked off stage.
"Good show guys, good show." Cindy said. We were smiling and congratulating each other when I felt Kelley pull me aside.
"Tobs, what the hell was that about?" She whispered.
"I just...felt it Kel." I said with a smile.
She sighed, "What are we gunna do with you, Romeo?" Kelley laughed.
"Well, I was think I magically meet Alex some random night, we fall back in love, and then you all come to our beautiful ocean side wedding." I joked and she laughed.
"Yeah, I'll keep dreaming." I said.
"Hey," she put her hand on my shoulder, "almost everything you said out there was true, there's just one part you got wrong. You two are definitely meant for each other." She gave me a pat on the back and walked away.
"Tobs we're gunna go sign autographs." Ash called back to me.
"Not really in the mood guys, I'm just gunna slip out the back." They nodded to me and left. I weaved my way through all the workers back stage and made my way down the steps to the black door. I put on a hoodie back stage, so I flipped my hood up in case anyone saw me. And opened the door. Or at least I tried to. I pushed it and I hit something. Strike that, I hit someONE. I herd them let out a yelp then I saw them fall to the ground.
"Oh my god, I am so so... Sorry." I they turned their head to look at me.
"...Alex?" I asked. I saw her eyes go wide and take in a deep breath. Without thinking I covered her mouth.
"Don't scream." I whispered, "I'll give you free tickets to our next show if you just don't scream." She pushed me off.
"I don't want tickets to the next show." She said. She held her head and groaned.
"Umm..." I ran a finger over where the door hit her on her head. I looked down at her and memories came rushing back. I shook my head.
"Ok, um, maybe we should get you to a hospital." I stood up and put my hands out for her to take.
"Ok um, yeah just, grab this hand." I led her around the block to the car.
"What about Brianna?" She said as I opened the door for her to get in.
"Who's Brianna?" I asked.
"My girlfriend." She said. I felt my stomach drop a bit.
"I'm, I'll figure something out." I said. She got in the car and I walked around to my side.
"I don't feel to great." Her face started to turn green.
"Umm, well, not in the car, it's not mine."
She leaned out the window and threw up on the street.
I grimaced and tried to look away.
I drive Alex to a doctor and waited outside the curtained area she was in.
"Well, I've done an exam, everything looks good." I heard him say.
"No sign of head trauma, and I'm sure you don't have a concussion."
I pulled the curtain back and stuck my head in, "So she's ok?" I asked.
"Out." The doctor said to me. I rolled my eyes and closed the curtain.
"Then why'd I through up?" She asked.
"Well it could be a lot of things," he said, "Maybe something you ate, motion sickness, or just a reaction of seeing that doofus." He said.
I stuck my head in, "It's a curtain,Ryan, I can hear you."
"No, no you can't." He said.
"You know each other?" Alex asked.
"Long story." We responded at the same time.
"So can I go?" Alex said.
"Yes, but I need you to put ice on that for a while." Ryan walked out to get an ice pack. I stood in front of Alex for a little while and my phone started to ring. She looked at me confused.
"Gunna answer that?" She said.
"Right." I responded. I closed the curtain and answered the call.
"Hello? Kel? What...where...who...now?!?" These were my responses to everything she just told me.
"Yeah, right now!" She said, "The record company owners just showed up to the after party!" She whisper yelled into the phone.
"What's going on?" She asked.
I looked back at Alex, "Nothing, I'll figure it out, I'm coming."
"What's there to fig-" I hung up before she could finish. Before I could get back inside Ryan cut me off.
"That might be a problem."
"Why?" I said.
"Because my waiting room is filled with big guys with big cameras." I let out a sigh.
"Ok um, Ryan what kinda car you driving?" I said.
He laughed, "Nothing close to what your company loans you."
I held up my keys, "How about a trade?"
Next thing I know, I was driving Ryan's old beat up Buick. We hit a bump and the car made a noise.
"Are you sure this is safe?" Alex asked.
"Pretty sure." We hit another bump.
"I'm pretty sure it's not!"
"Just calm down alright."
"I don't wanna calm down, I wanna leave."
"Jeez what's wrong with you?" I grumbled.
"What's wrong with me? Nothing, I'm just looking forward to my girlfriend being furious with me."
"Oh is that why your so pissy?" I asked.
"I'm am NOT pissy."
"Oh not pissy, defensive."
"Oh I am not defensive."
"See, you disagree with everything I say."
"Because you're wrong!"
"Am not!"
"Are to!"
"Am not!"
"Just take me home!" She yelled.
"I will, we just have to make one quick stop."
We pulled up to a club where the after party was.
"You're kidding." She said. I ignored her and dragged her upstairs.
"What are we doing?" She asked.
"Cmon we gotta go." I lead her to a balcony that over looked the downstairs area that happened to be closed that night.
"It's just for a little while, I promise, there's a couch over there, you'll be fine just, stay." I sighed out. I started to walk away.
"Woof." She said mockingly.
I walked downstairs and shook hands with people I knew were important. I greeted them until I saw the rest of the band.
"Hey guys." I said walking up.
"Tobin, so nice to see you." Martin, the man who owns the company shook my hand.
"You too Mr. Sanders." I gave him a smile.
"So Tobin," his wife, Peggy started to speak, "we were hoping you might play us a song?" She said.
"Oh um, yeah, sure." I looked at my friends to ask what to play.
"All you Tobs." They said.
I walked over to the piano and took a seat.
"Um, hey everyone, this is just a little something I've been working on for a while for our next album. I hope you like it." I started to laugh a little bit. I let a breath out and started to play.

A long December and there's reason to believe
Maybe this year will be better than the last
I can't remember the last thing that you said as you were leavin'
Now the days go by so fast

I noticed Alex had walked out and was leaning against the balcony railing.

And it's one more day up in the canyons
And it's one more night in Hollywood
If you think that I could be forgiven...I wish you would

The smell of hospitals in winter
And the feeling that it's all a lot of oysters, but no pearls
All at once you look across a crowded room
To see the way that light attaches to a girl

I glanced up to her, and noticed she wore a sad expression.

And it's one more day up in the canyons
And it's one more night in Hollywood
If you think you might come to California...I think you should

Drove up to Hillside Manor sometime after two a.m.
And talked a little while about the year
I guess the winter makes you laugh a little slower,
Makes you talk a little lower about the things you could not show her

And it's been a long December and there's reason to believe
Maybe this year will be better than the last

I can't remember all the times I tried to tell my myself
To hold on to these moments as they pass

I felt my chest get heavy as I looked up at Alex. I saw her jaw drop and she covered her mouth. She got it, that's exactly what she said to me the night I left for LA.

And it's one more day up in the canyon
And it's one more night in Hollywood
It's been so long since I've seen the ocean...I guess I should

I got up and thanked everyone. I glanced back up to see Alex gone. I excused myself and ran up to get her. I saw her walking down the stairs. We looked at each other before she broke the silence.
"Let's, let's just take me home." She walked past me and out to my car. We drove in silence as we made our way back to her college.
"What was that about?" She asked.
"Uh...what was what about."
"That song at your show, the one about having the time of your life." She said.
"Oh um, I wrote it a little while ago, never put it out though."
"And it was about..." She looked at me and I glanced at her for a second. That's all the answer she needed.
"But, why tonight! Why'd you pick tonight to sing it?" I shrugged my shoulders.
"Fate?" I said. We pulled into the parking lot closest to her dorm.
"Hey um, I'm sorry about tonight." I said.
"It's fine." She got out of the car.
"Thanks." She said. I nodded and gave her a slight wave.
"Oh, Lex!" I saw her let a small smile loose at the use of the nickname. I leaned over the middle console so I was closer to the window...and her.
"Fate had nothing to do with it, I saw you in the crowd." I have her a small smile, and surprisingly, she returned it. I waited and made sure she got into her dorm before driving off.
I snuck into our hotel room. It was late again. I out my stuff down and the lamp flicked on again.
"We meet again." Kelley said. I have her a smile.
"So, another fling?" She asked. I sat next to her.
"No, not really, at least, I hope not."
She raised her eye brows.
"So what happened tonight?" She asked.
"Have I got a story for you."
